Sony Ericsson Review Contest

Sony Ericsson is looking to drum up excitement for their two new devices in the pipeline by holding a worldwide reviewing contest. The steps to enter are simple:

  • Step 1: Correctly answer question 1
  • Step 2: In 50 words or less, tell us why you should be the first to review one of these two phones
  • Step 3: Tell us who you are

Official Preakness App

Good news for anyone who is faithfully devoted to the Preakness Stakes, as the official app is now live in the Market.

The app allows you to check out the schedule, jockey information, race replays, and up-to-date results, to name a few. A must have for any Triple Crown fan, this looks to be an app you'll use well after the Preakness race is finished this Saturday afternoon.

Download links are after the break.

Motorola Cliq2

Motorola is looking for 200 software testers to test the latest version of Android they've developed for the Cliq 2. Unfortunately, this is not a Gingerbread update.

If you're interested in getting the release early, all you need to do is hit the source link and fill out a survey to become a candidate to test the early software release.

If anyone's fortunate enough to get the software early, as always, let us know what's different and how it's running for you.

Logitech Keyboard Case

Logitech has launched a new line of Android tablet accessories today. Some of the highlights in the lineup include:

  • Logitech Wireless Speaker: Eliminate cables and listen to your music from up to 50 feet away from your tablet with Bluetooth connectivity. The speaker delivers rich stereo sound and its rechargeable batteries last up to 10 hours.
  • Logitech Tablet Keyboard: This keyboard comes in two models — one for Android-based tablets and one for iPad — and the carrying case converts to a stand when you’re ready to type.
  • Logitech Tablet Mouse: Pairing to your Android 3.1 + tablet using Bluetooth, this mouse delivers laser-precise tracking, smooth cursor control and easy up-and-down scrolling.

Anyone interested? I know products like the Motorola Atrix 4G and the Eee Pad Transformer have an edge with their dedicated keyboard docks, but will this pull anyone away? I for one think the keyboard would look great with a Galaxy Tab 10.1.

Galaxy S

Good news for Vodafone customers rocking the Samsung Galaxy S: Your Gingerbread update is finally being pushed out.

Gone are the woes of last month, when your update was 'temporarily suspended' and now you're on to new, greener, Gingerbreadier pastures. Rest assured, this Gingerbread update has passed all the appropriate checks, so fire up KIES and get upgraded.

For those who are just now updating, how's it working for you? Was the wait worth it? As always, we're curious, so let us know.

Samsung Developer Forum

If you're a developer who has always had a soft spot for Samsung's hardware, this might be your lucky day. Samsung has just launched their official forum for Android developers with such helpful links as "Device Specs" and "Code Sample" (for alternate screen sizes).

If you're not interested in developing for Samsung, let me remind you of a few things I can think of.

Full presser is after the break.

Music beta by Google

We got our first look at Google Music Beta at Google IO this year, and it looks like some who requested invites are finally starting to see a response. Your Google Music Beta invite nets you just one invite (none to give out) that works across all your 2.2+ devices.

Uploading is done through the browser-based web app and music syncs in the background. Expect more as we find out.

And anyone who gets an invite, let us know how it's working for you. Sound off, comments, you know the drill.

Samsung Hercules Sketch

It looks like T-Mobile just can't stop the good Android news from flowing. Word on the street is there's a new Samsung phone in the pipeline for T-Mobile, codenamed "Hercules," which might be the Infuse 4G's stronger, faster cousin.

Details aren't scant even though this one won't be released for a while (we're talking mid-August), but this is what's currently listed:

  • 4.5-inch Super AMOLED plus display at 480x800
  • Android 2.3
  • NFC
  • T-Mobile's new 42Mbps HSPA + data speed
  • TMo's 1700MHz band for 3G, plus AT&T's 850MHz and 1900MHz bands, in case the merger goes through
  • A 1.2GHz Qualcomm APQ8060 processor -- fast, fast, fast
  • 8MP rear camera
  • MHL adapter for HDMI out. Booo.

So it's a souped up Infuse 4G? And judging by our recent review of the Infuse, that's certainly saying something. What's everyone think? Is this T-Mobile's next superphone? At any rate, if it's packing hardware like that, it's bound to be a strong contender.

T-Mobile Trade-In Funds

T-Mobile is instituting a phone trade-in program, taking not only their own handsets, but a handset from any carrier and offering up to $300 that could be used towards the purchase of a new T-Mobile phone. The best part? You can put your trade-in money towards any phone, including some of their beastly 4G handsets.

Got an old flip-phone that’s collecting dust? Wanna trade up to the latest 4G device but watching the wallet? T-Mobile is making it even more affordable to upgrade with a new retail Trade In program that provides customers with the ability to trade existing mobile devices, from any carrier, for cash (up to $300) that could be used towards the purchase of a new handset – including any smartphone running on T-Mobile’s 4G network. Customers just need to go to any T-Mobile retail store with their old device, where a trained T-Mobile representative will determine the trade-in value of each device and a check for the quoted amount will be given to the customer via a mail-in rebate process. It’s a great way to step up to 4G without spending a ton.

Full presser is after the break.

AT&T Sideloading

When we broke the news that AT&T is pushing updates to older Android devices to finally enable sideloading, and with the Infuse 4G being its first phone to sideload out of the box, we naturally assumed AT&T will continue to leave its future phones open. And that assumption has been confirmed, as Ma Bell went straight to the developers to inform them of her intent to no longer lock out sideloading on future phones.

Again, props to AT&T for finally changing its stance, even if it took the Amazon Appstore not working to make it happen. No matter how you slice it, it's a win for the customer.

Thanks to everyone who sent this in!
