TeamViewer for Meetings updated with VoIP support

The folks at Teamviewer have pushed out quite the update for their TeamViewer for Meetings app, bringing some minor bug fixes, full hardware acceleration for Honeycomb and Ice Cream Sandwich tablets, and VoIP support. VoIP support on top of the already excellent Teleconferencing application really opens up things on a Wifi-only Android tablet, and better hardware acceleration support for those same tablets means a better -- and more productive -- user experience.

TeamViewer's apps and servers (they make an awesome Remote Desktop-style product as well) are 100 percent free for normal, non-commercial users. The Windows server has the ability to host meetings used with the mobile application, but as of yet the Mac and Linux versions do not, offering only the remote control abilities. We've got a mess of links below, and TeamViewer's press release after the break.

TeamViewer® Releases new Android Apps for Remote Control and Online Meetings

Remote support of Mac, PC and Linux systems just got easier with all new design and performance improvements

Online meetings more efficient with the addition of VoIP

Tampa, Florida, April 17, 2012 – TeamViewer, one of the world’s most popular providers of remote control and online meeting software, today announced updates to the TeamViewer for Remote Control and TeamViewer for Online Meetings Android Apps.

TeamViewer for Remote Control

The new design, including performance improvements, tablet optimizations and an improved multi-tasking capability, makes remote control of any Mac, PC or Linux system easier than ever before.

The TeamViewer for Remote Control app allows private users to access remote computers from anywhere in the world using their Android smartphone or tablet. Users can access remote computers to edit documents, use computer-based software while on the road, transfer or share files and collaborate ideas among friends and family.

The update expands and improves upon the remote control feature set. Developments include:

  • New design makes the software easier to use especially on tablets
  • Performance improvements make operating and connecting to remote computers even faster
  • New layout supports portrait or landscape mode
  • Improved multi-tasking capabilities
  • Improved compatibility with Android 4.x

Connecting with TeamViewer for Remote Control is easy as a few simple clicks. Once connected, users are able to see the entire screen of the remote computer and manipulate the mouse for control. Typical Android gestures like pinching and zooming give navigation an authentic feel as users scroll through programs and open files as if they were seated at the remote computer.  Remote reboot is also possible from the Android device.

TeamViewer for Online Meetings

TeamViewer is announcing the addition of VoIP to the TeamViewer for Online Meetings Android App. The updated app enhances the online meetings functionality while still providing essential features including:

  • New VoIP allows participants to communicate instantly and from anywhere
  • Integrated pointer function lets users focus presenter attention on a given point
  • Send chat messages for quiet exchange of information
  • Automatic quality adjustments

“The new user interface is making remote control even easier, and the addition of VoIP to our online meetings app will save Android users time and money,” said Holger Felgner, General Manager at TeamViewer. “With these new versions, we are refining what users like best about our software to make staying connected simple and easy for every participant, whether you are an IT professional with clients across the globe or simply want to access your home computer while on the go.”

As with all TeamViewer solutions, every communication between the viewer and the viewed computer or computers is encrypted with AES 256-bit encoding, providing the highest security standard.
