While eagerly anticipate the launch of the PS5, many stores have already set up pre-order notifications for when sales of the console go live. The PS5 boasts a 10.28 TFLOP GPU, a CPU running at 3.5GHz, and a blazing fast solid-state drive (SSD). So what does that mean for you? It means you'll definitely want this console.

Where can I buy a PS5?

Right now you can sign up for pre-order notifications from Best Buy, GameStop, Target, and PlayStation itself. Retailers like Walmart and Amazon do not have store pages live yet or anywhere to sign up for notifications.

Because of COVID-19, there may be supply shortages. It's recommended that if you want a PS5, you buy one as soon as possible before they sell out.

What will the PS5 cost?

It's unknown what the PlayStation 5 will cost as Sony has yet to announce an official price. Analysts suggest anywhere between $400 or $500, with high estimates hitting $550. It has been reported that Sony is struggling to keep the price down due to scarce parts, and is waiting to see what Microsoft prices the Xbox Series X at.

Sony wants the price to be competitive, but also indicated it may not be the cheapest on the market. Pre-order pages have popped up at multiple retailers like Amazon and Play Asia for upwards of $750, but these appeared to be errors.

Whatever the case, don't expect the console price to match that of the PS4 when it launched. Odds are it will be higher, we just aren't sure by how much.

When will the PS5 release?

The PlayStation 5 is on track for a holiday 2020 release alongside the Xbox Series X. A specific date has not been announced, but judging by past console releases, it's a good bet that we'll be seeing the PS5 hit store shelves sometime in November.

PS5 accessories

Sony unveiled a line of accessories to accompany the PS5 at its official reveal event. These include a DualSense charging station, wireless headset, media remote, and camera. Like the PS5 design itself, there all feature a two-tone black and white color scheme.

It's unknown how much these will cost when they hit store shelves.

Which PS5 should I buy?

Along with the accessories, Sony revealed that a PS5 Digital Edition is being made as well. As its name suggests, you can't use normal discs with it. Instead all media will need to be downloaded to its SDD. This is similar to Microsoft's Xbox One S All-Digital Edition.

According to comments made by Sony's Jim Ryan to CNET, the only difference between the consoles is the disc drive.

As you saw, there is a small difference in the form factor of the two consoles. I'm sure you also observed, the basic design aesthetic is consistent between them. So there is that and the fact that the digital edition does not have a disk drive. That is it. Other than that, they are identical products.

It's within reason that the PS5 Digital Edition is cheaper than its counterpart, but Sony hasn't confirmed a price for either console yet.

Which console you then buy comes down to a matter of preference. Do you sometimes buy physical discs and do you have physical PS4 games you'd like to play on your PS5? If the answer is no, you'll probably want the PS5 Digital Edition.
