It's become commonplace to expect the next generation of phones to feature some advancement in generative AI, which is where these rumors are headed for Samsung.

Well-known X tipster Ice Universe reported this week that Samsung is preparing to debut a new Galaxy AI feature for two apps on the Galaxy S26 (via Android Headlines). The social media post highlights that Samsung, in partnership with Nota, could debut an all-new set of image generation tools for its next series. However, the tipster claims this work could be done entirely on-device.

Supposedly, rumors are saying this feature for the S26 could be dubbed "EdgeFusion." While it's unclear if this will be its official name, Ice Universe claims, "This feature can generate images directly on the device in under one second based on text prompts entered by the user."

As expected, this will slide into Samsung's Galaxy AI ecosystem of features for its next-gen Galaxy S models. It's worth mentioning that Nota announced its AI partnership with Samsung in November 2025. More than that, this partnership was about integrating its AI systems into the Exynos 2500 SoC. This rumor from X purports there's a little more to it than we were previously told.

Samsung's AI is making moves

Interestingly, Samsung's Q3 2025 earnings call held some tidbits about where the company could go with AI for the Galaxy S26 series. The company's VP of Mobile Experience Division, Daniel Araujo, said the next phone series will "revolutionize the user experience with user-centric, next-gen AI, a second-generation custom AP, and stronger performance, including new camera sensors.” We're sort of seen where this new AI direction could go, but there's likely more under the hood.

On a related note, Samsung might've accidentally revealed its major AI upgrade for its Bixby assistant. While we might've forgotten Bixby was there, Samsung is supposedly looking to turn the assistant into a true "conversational assistant" that understands the "intent," not just your voice command.

Android Central's Take

Handling AI tasks on-device is something brought up during the setup process for the Galaxy S25 series and after. On one hand, you have this option as a privacy-forward choice, as your queries and data processed won't leave your device to enter the Cloud before returning with the result. Elsewhere, there's strength and power and battery consumption. I saw a comment on X in regards to Ice Universe's rumor, which also mentioned power as a concern. Of course, some regions will see the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, while others see the Exynos 2600. There's still a lot here that's uncertain (power, battery, etc.), so I'll reserve my official judgement for when it's here.
