What you need to know

  • LG's Tone Free HBS-FN6 true wireless earbuds are now available to purchase in the U.S. for $150
  • The main selling point of the earbuds is their UVnano charging case that is claimed to be able to kill 99.9% of all bacteria.
  • In addition to the HBS-FN6, LG has launched two more new Tone Free true wireless earbuds.

LG unveiled two new true wireless earbuds last month, including one with a UVnano case capable of removing bacteria and germs from the earbuds. As promised, the new Tone Free true wireless earbuds are now on sale in the U.S.

While the charging case included with the LG HBS-FN6 won't actually "clean" them, it can kill 99.9% of bacteria on the speaker mesh of the earbuds while charging them. The UV LED light inside the charging case is activated when the case is closed with the earbuds inside.

The earbuds use a custom-built driver unit and offer special EQ sound settings from Meridian. They also come with an ambient sound mode, which lets you listen to your surroundings with just a tap on the earbuds. As for battery life, the earbuds are claimed to last up to six hours, while the charging case is capable of providing additional twelve hours of charge. Some of the other key features of the LG HBS-FN6 include support for wireless charging, IPX4 sweat/water resistance, and dual microphones for "maximum" call clarity.

If you do not want to shell out $150 for a new pair of true wireless earbuds, LG has also started selling the HBS-FN5W in the U.S. The $130 earbuds look nearly identical to the HBS-FN6 and offer the same 18 hours of battery life. However, they do not come with the UVnano case. The LG HBS-FN4 true wireless earbuds are even more affordable at $100, but lack both a UVnano case and support for wireless charging.

LG's flagship Tone Free earbuds come with a UVnano charging case that can sanitize them while charging. The earbuds also pack Meridian sound technologies and are IPX4 rated for sweat and water resistance.
