Here are the phones that are compatible with the Samsung Gear S2

One of the big pieces of news to come along with Samsung's Gear S2 announcement was that it will be compatible with non-Samsung smartphones. There are some restrictions however, as Samsung notes that the Gear S2 requires a paired smartphone with Android 4.4 and higher and more than 1.5GB of RAM. Buried in the Gear S2 page on Samsung's website is a list giving us a look at just which phones (beyond Samsung's own, of course) will be compatible with the smartwatch out of the gate.

Here's the lengthy list of compatible devices from each manufacturer, along with their test markets.

  • They could do it. Remember how the original Galaxy Gear moved to Tizen OS and got most of the Galaxy Gear 2 capabilities, once the Galaxy Gear 2 came out. Posted via the AC App on SM-N910F
  • Not moto G though. Made my decision very easy
  • Really planning on buying that smart watch that is several times more expensive than your phone, were ya?
  • Yes the irony is crazy. The moto g's price was the least of my reasons for getting it
  • This is such a random ass list Posted via the Android Central App
  • Nice!
  • I wonder if all those people saying they wouldn't buy it because it only worked on Samsung phones will put up or shut up now? Posted via the Android Central App
  • I wouldn't call that list lengthy. The list of late model phones not included would be far longer.
  • What allows the nexus 5 and 6 to work but not the nexus 4?
  • It's numberism at its worst. Protest! Four four we want more! We're just as good as 5 & 6! Come on Samsung don't be...uhhh pricks? Ticks? Knicks? Wicks? Snicks? Pick up sticks? What word would fit in here so perfectly? Ahhh....forget it. Posted via GS6 Active - aka GS6 M.E. (Manly Edition)
  • The Nexus 4 sucked, is a bad machine and should feel bad? I am gonna guess either the processor or storage space... Or just that it is really not high on the priority list. If I had to rank that it would be priority, space, cpu Check out the new Nexus! https://youtu.be/u3uFOavLo_w, not a Rick roll
  • And why not the US version of the Nexus 5?
  • No oneplus?
Well I don't want tizen anyways. I was hoping for cheaper android wear watches or one with a speaker but I guess not this year...
Lg g watch is still working but it lags so much!

  • @patstar5: I saw the writing on the wall when I had my Asus ZenWatch. Even though I had it for a few months, somehow I sold it for the same price that I paid for it which was 199 to someone. But I also got a $50 Google credit when I got it, bringing the real cost to 149. Used that to put towards an LG Watch-R that was also on sale and only paid 49 bucks more (249) which kind of was like giving up the free Google Play credit and placing it on the R, making it 199. I say all this extra long wordy stuff to say that you should have sold your watch early. However I do have a time machine if you're interested in going back and changing that. Let me know. I mostly use it for small stuff like when I forget to feed the cat, or for that witty comeback that I couldn't think of at the time. Nothing too major. Posted via GS6 Active - aka GS6 M.E. (Manly Edition)
  • It's pretty annoying when they didn't list any Samsung phones every single phone that was listed isn't a galaxy note 4 I really click on this article thinking I would finally know if it's actually compatible with my galaxy note 4 or not? Frustrating and very annoying. Did Androidcentral do this just to piss us off? lol
  • Wow. Just...wow. I think this watch is compatible with every Note 4 except yours. Sorry, you're out of luck. Posted via the Android Central App
  • +100000 People don't like to read do they... Posted via the AC App on SM-N910F
  • Did you read the article? Posted via the Android Central App
  • I actually find it ironic that a Samsung smartwatch needs a phone that runs Android 4.4 or higher for a watch that doesn't run Android at all (Tizen). Posted From my Verizon Galaxy Note Edge via the Android Central App... And Don't Eat The Yellow Snow!
  • Not if you understood things/programming /Android at all. A Lots of things changed under the hood and many apps require 4.4. I believe several Google Apps won't let you upgrade if you are anything older. It just programming and how they work together. Check out the new Nexus! https://youtu.be/u3uFOavLo_w, not a Rick roll
  • So much for all the initial whining about how it would only work with Samsung phones because... Tizen.
  • Screw Tizen if it won't work with blackberry and WEB OS it is junk... Check out the new Nexus! https://youtu.be/u3uFOavLo_w, not a Rick roll
  • It still won't work completely with anything but Samsung phones. I don't want a product that is gimped with anything but a Samsung phone. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Only EU zenphone2. I hope that's only temporary Posted via the Android Central App
  • Geez. It's an initial list. Some people understand that not all compatible devices will be listed immediately and others crap themselves in public. The latter need not wait (as if they would) to change their panties before replying.
  • Any word on how you would install apps for this? Sideloaded I would assume as competing app stores are illegal in Google Play? Posted via the Android Central App
  • You access it through the Gear App for your phone. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Samsung is the Apple of Android Posted via the Android Central App
  • Nope Posted via GS6 Active - aka GS6 M.E. (Manly Edition)
  • Meaning that they are really successful? Then you are correct! Posted via the Android Central App
  • Not the LG G3…? That's a shame.
  • Yes LG Optimus G3 = LG G3
  • Leave it to Samsung to purposely not give the real name of competitors.
  • Why not just say the G3…? So obscure. I'm leaning towards the Moto 360 2 anyway...
  • No Nexus line... Interesting. Posted via the Android Central App
  • No nexus 4 ??? Posted via the Android Central App
  • I'm fairly sure Huawei and Motorola launched watches at IFA, but I guess I'm wrong since this website seems to only talk about Samsung. Sure, there was 2 or 3 articles about Motorola, but at this point, there's like 10 of Samsung. We get it. They paid you for ads.

  • What about the new Moto X Pure? That's going to be my next phone. It has the specs, so I should be good, right?
  • What about 1gb phones? Might have to upgrade my Moto G 2014. Posted via the Android Central App
  • No US Nexus 5? Guess I better file the insurance claim on my Note 4 Posted via the Android Central App
  • Does this watch stand alone as the Gear S? O no.
  • How about Nexus 6?
  • It's on the list, so yes. Posted via the Android Central App
  • So it's a no go with the IOS version of Android Wear?
