The great Droid X scavenger hunt has officially begun

Yes, the official Verizon and Motorola sponsored Droid X scavenger hunt has begun.  Remember that @DroidLanding twitter account we talked about a couple weeks ago?  Of course you do, we're all trying to decipher the up-until-now vague hints and clues they've been dropping.  Things are a little clearer now, as Verizon has released the official sweepstakes rules for the treasure-hunt style giveaway, which started yesterday at Midnight.  The tweets should start getting a little less cryptic, eventually becoming actual GPS locations of the prizes.  Did we mention the prizes? How does 21 brand spanking new Motorola Droid X phones (valued at $569.99 each according to the rules themselves) sound?  Yeah, I thought so -- sounds good to me too.

If you haven't already, make sure you're following @DroidLanding on Twitter, and follow the jump to read the official rules.  [Verizon]

  • I have given up and I wanna share why. I was led to believe in the beginning that there were actual phones waiting to be found and that you could have one early to show off and brag about. Now it's a certificate for 'A Verizon Wireless Droid Phone". Which Droid are we talking about? Can I keep it for a future Droid phone? Next it is a race, not a scavenger hunt. "Dates and times of Certificate placement will vary, but the final clue of each GPS location for each Certificate will be tweeted at the time it is hidden." Now if the Droid X is what they are giving away and it sells out on launch day check this out. "...the Sponsor who reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value in the event the prize is unavailable." I really wanted to find a phone and use the money for accessories and my bill. I think I will keep my pre-order in place.
  • Ahh shut up... Sound like a damn snob... This is supposed to be FUN... And thats Legal Speak for any contest to back them selves up so I would expect there to be DROID Xes to be had once they are in Stock... And you think any Cell Carrier would just let you walk away with a free phone WITHOUT A Contract? . . . Get real..
  • I see no dastardly plot by Verizon to prevent you from getting the Droid X should you find a Certificate. No reason you can't keep your pre-order and play the game too.
  • Someone wants to give you something for free and you can only complain about it. Free is still Free. I will make a judgement based on the final clue for my area on whether I want to race to get it. If I get it, great. If not, it is still entertaining.
  • Is anyone else having trouble getting the Twitter page for DroidLanding to work? It's all corrupted for me.
  • Ya it appears it doesn't work in Firefox right now for me but IE does.
  • It's working just fine for me.. Btw would this certificate be redeemable immediately or would u be getting the phone the same day just for free
  • Plus even if you don't want the phone or a Verizon plan you could give it to someone who does Droid...
  • Any idea which states and cities are in the hunt? There is a lot of area for just 21 offers
  • FYI, use Google Maps for the coordinates. That's probably how they got them, haha. The most possible cities are probably the most populated as well. DC, Atlanta, St. Louis, Miami, L.A., etc.
