Phil Nickinson News Thursday, 11 March 2010

We're getting word that T-Mobile G1 users have been getting OTA updates over the past couple of days, but alas it's not "THE BIG ONE" to Android 2.0 or 2.1. Instead, it looks like it's a radio update, aka the infamous "call quality improvement."

Sell a T-Mobile Cliq XT in 60 seconds

Casey Chan News Tuesday, 09 March 2010

The T-Mobile Cliq XT sales pamphlet has been spotted in the wild and though it's not as exciting as seeing the actual device in the wild, there's always little quirks you can find in these pamphlets. Case in point: T-Mobile details how you can sell the Cliq XT in 60 seconds, telling sales reps to cite that it's the thinnest Android phone on T-Mobile, has access to Android Market,...

When you should blame Google (and when it's not their fault)

Phil Nickinson News Friday, 05 March 2010

Our pals at JK on the Run put up an excellent piece today breaking down Google's supposed (or blatant, depending on who you ask) favoritism regarding the latest OS versions, features, etc. Basically it boils down to this: Has Google put some of the latest features (i.e. Buzz, Google Maps Navigation

Better late than never: Samsung releases Behold II commercial

Casey Chan News Thursday, 04 March 2010

So for reasons that currently escape us, Samsung has decided to release a commercial showcasing the Samsung Behold II--yep, that middling Android 1.5, TouchWiz UI running phone that never picked up much steam when it was released way back in November. The commercial is a nice spot, we think the stylizing is done rather nicely, but why devote...

Samsung T959 for T-Mobile makes an appearance; Android version unknown

Jared DiPane News Wednesday, 03 March 2010

It seems a bit crazy to think that the Android-powered T959 is in the works when the Samsung T949 has yet to even be released, but some specs have emerged showing that's the case.

While the details of this device are limited, we do know it will have a 320x480 screen resolution, offer users 3G bands, aGPS, as well as Bluetooth. Unfortunately the camera is unknown, as well as the version of Android it will be running, but it is speculated to be running 2.1 upon release. Continue to check in as we will post information as it surfaces. [via

Basically it borks the phone pretty good, from keyboard issues to text message issues to time issues to causing your face to break out in hives. (OK, we made that last one up.) In other words, if you haven't installed the update, don't. And if you have installed the update, for frak's sake don't hard-reset your phone...

T-Mobile did a good job in 4Q 2009

Casey Chan News Thursday, 25 February 2010

T-Mobile actually did well in the fourth quarter of 2009. They added 371,000 new customers in 4Q compared to losing 77,000 in 3Q. It's still not as good as what they did in 4Q 2008 (added 621,000) but it's a step in the right direction. Since they offer very competitive rate plans and we're the first carriers to adopt Android, we'll always have a soft spot in our hearts for T...

The Cliq update started to roll out yesterday, February 18th, so check your system update to see if you...

New version of the myTouch 3G now listed on T-Mobile's Web site

Erica Marchand News Thursday, 11 February 2010

The latest version of the myTouch 3G is now on T-Mobile's Web site, though it's listed as "coming soon" and isn't actually available yet. The big difference is the addition of a 3.5mm audio jack. To some this may mean nothing, but for those that know about the 2.5mm audio jack this means you can use pretty much any headphones to listen to as much music as the battery can handle.

myTouch 3G 1.2 looks strangely familiar

Phil Nickinson News Tuesday, 09 February 2010

Now that the myTouch 3G 1.2 has been manhandled, really the only thing left to do is for T-Mobile to release the darn thing. And judging by the pictorial, the only real difference we're going to be seeing will be under the hood -- there's now 256MB of RAM -- and the addition of the 3.5mm headphone jack. It also comes with an 8GB microSD card.

Look for the myTouch 3G...

How's your Nexus One 3G reception now?

Phil Nickinson News Tuesday, 09 February 2010

By now everyone should have seen the Google Nexus One update (called 2.1-update1) pushed out to their phones. (If not, you can always update manually.) Aside from pinch-to-zoom being turned on in a handful of apps, the update contained a fix for the apparent problems the phone was having keeping a 3G connection on T-Mobile.

T-Mobile loosens SIM unlocking policy

Phil Nickinson News Tuesday, 19 January 2010

With the launch of the Nexus One on T-Mobile, the spotlight has been cast on "unlocked" GSM phones of late, or how to unlock a phone. (The short version is you need a code.) It's not a huge deal in the United States, especially because T-Mobile and AT&T don't use the same 3G radio frequencies, so...

Having problems with the Nexus One keyboard?

Phil Nickinson News Monday, 18 January 2010

We've seen this ourselves and have been receiving e-mails about occasional issues with the Google Nexus One's on-screen keyboard. T-Mobile Offering Android Phone Deals That Aren't Really Deals Today

Casey Chan News Friday, 15 January 2010

T-Mobile is supposed to launch some "deals" on Android smartphones today (all phones require 2-year contract, no mail-in-rebate required) but they're still all kind of expensive. We'd be more excited if these were really deals but since you can probably find better prices out in other retailers or just across the interweb, well yeah, sorry. These aren't real "deals":
