Sprint now says Samsung Moment's 2.1 upgrade coming in early Q2

Phil Nickinson News Tuesday, 16 February 2010

Sorry, folks. Looks like that Feb. 22 date we heard about for a supposed Android 2.1 update on the Samsung Moment ain't gonna happen. Sprint just tweeted the above, so we're going to have to wait things out a little longer. Stay tuned. [

Sprint rumored to update Samsung Moment to Android 2.1 starting Feb. 22

Phil Nickinson News, Rumors Thursday, 11 February 2010

File this under "unofficial" for now, but we're getting word on dates for Sprint to update the Samsung Moment, which at current is still running Android 1.5. And even better is that the update reportedly may be Android 2.1, and not merely 2.0 as Sprint told us earlier.

About the Sprint-Nexus One rumor ...

Phil Nickinson News, Rumors Monday, 01 February 2010

Remember, for a minute, what your mother used to tell you about talking to strangers. Now replace that with cell phone carrier customer solutions representatives and automated chat robots. Not that they're out to mislead anybody. It's just that sometimes the facts aren't always there, though they're more than willing to talk to you.

And that brings us to today's rumor of the

Sprint Keeps Us Updated On The Android 2.1 Update By Telling Us Nothing New

Casey Chan News Friday, 29 January 2010

Sprint had previously informed us via Twitter that they would update all of their Android devices to Android 2.0 in the first half of 2010. That was great news--back in October. And then they reminded us again in December. And then it was

Render supposedly shows the HTC Supersonic, with WiMAX and Android 3.0

Phil Nickinson News Monday, 25 January 2010

Update 2: Yeah. As pointed out in the comments, this is just a bad joke perpetuated. Move along, folks.

We're taking this with a decent grain on salt at this point, but what you see above supposedly is a render of the HTC Supersonic, which we've also come to know as the WiMAX...

Maybe it's the Supersonic, maybe it isn't

Phil Nickinson News Saturday, 23 January 2010

We're drawing lines between dots here but aren't quite coming up with a picture yet. Above is a screen shot obtained by the Boy Genius Report and posted for "informational purposes" (meaning they aren't all that sure about it either) that shows what might be the "HTC Supersonic" running on T-Mobile with Android 3.0. That said, let's...

HTC releases source code for Sprint Hero; ROM cookers rejoice

Phil Nickinson News Friday, 22 January 2010

Sprint ROM cookers are foaming at the mouth this morning as HTC has released the source code for the Sprint Hero. That means better ROMs, built from the same zeros and ones as HTC. It likely won't contain every line of code you'll find in an official Hero ROM, as close-sourced code doesn't have to be released. But it's already been compiled, and ROMs are cooking as we speak. Nexus One priced against iPhone 3GS, Pre, Droid

For those of you pining for a new Android device on Sprint, you may soon get your wish. The Boy Genius Report has snagged a shot from Sprint's inventory screen that shows the LG LS680, clearly listing an Android handset. (Don't get crazy about the $1 listing, that's likely just a placeholder.)

No real world on what the LS680 might be,...

Sprint: HTC Hero & Samsung Moment Getting Android 2.1, Not 2.0

Casey Chan News Thursday, 17 December 2009

Looks like Sprint is going to jump Android 1.6 and 2.0, and head straight to Android 2.1 for the HTC Hero and Samsung Moment. Which is really the most logical solution considering 2.1 is out and about. They previously said that the HTC Hero and Samsung Moment would receive the 2.0...

Phil Nickinson News Saturday, 12 December 2009

Looks like this cat's really out of the bag now. A trio of videos of the Motorola Opus One surfaced on YouTube, spied by IntoMobile and subsequently were pulled -- a telltale sign if we've ever seen one. It's now confirmed that it's headed for Sprint's Nextel arm (...

Though we're sure all you Sprint HTC Hero users would really appreciate an Android 2.0 software update right about now, it looks like HTC isn't ready to deliver Eclair to you just yet. Instead, Sprint is ramping up a 'maintenance release' that'll presumably fix well-known bugs and software issues with the HTC Hero. You should receive the update in the next few weeks. [sprint]

Motorola DROID Camera Test

Casey Chan Featured Sunday, 08 November 2009

One of the features we were most looking forward in the DROID was the 5-megapixel autofocus camera. After having middling experiences with previous Android smartphone cameras, we were very hopeful that the DROID would buck the disappointing trend. But even using Android 2.0's updated camera interface to push out 5-megapixel pictures, the results were, well, a mixed bag.

We decided to let you guys compare a few shots we took with...

Numbers: Sprint Doing A Bit Better But Still Bad, Motorola Makes a Little Money

Casey Chan News Friday, 30 October 2009

Time for the check up on some Android-related companies who've been struggling in our economic downturn. Will actually having Android devices in their stable eventually help their bottom line? Let's take a look!

First up, Sprint. The good bad news: Sprint lost 801,000 postpaid subscribers which was actually under the analysts estimate of 870,000 losses. This is still bad news but certainly much better news than the 991,000 and 1.25 million...

Sprint HTC Hero: Hardware Review

Casey Chan Featured Thursday, 15 October 2009

There’s no question that the HTC Hero has been the most anticipated Android device in Android’s short lifetime. Though the T-Mobile G1 and myTouch 3G are both wonderful devices that will still be relevant years from today, the G1 had a (undeserved) “beta” rep it couldn’t shake and the myTouch 3G had such a delayed release in the US, it couldn’t maintain the initial hype (deserved).

Sprint HTC Hero $329.99 Off-Contract

Casey Chan News Tuesday, 06 October 2009

According to Leakdroid, the Sprint HTC Hero will be available off-contract for $329.99. Considering the price of the HTC Hero with 2-year contract is already $179.99 and the various advantages in not signing a new contract, the $329.99 price seems to be a relative steal. So if you're lucky enough to be a Sprint subscriber with a great monthly plan, we...

Sprint HTC Hero Spotted, Looks Ready to Launch

Casey Chan News Thursday, 24 September 2009

At this point, we know so much about the Sprint HTC Hero that nothing really can surprise us anymore. It's chin-less, round-ish, and altogether pretty safe design-wise.  So instead of focusing on the phone itself, how would you like to take a look at the box art of the much anticipated next Android device? Rather generic looking, ain't it?

What this leaked picture most likely means is that Sprint is familiarizing its team of workers...

Sprint Open Developer Conference Has Android Focus

Casey Chan News Wednesday, 23 September 2009

Sprint has announced their 9th annual Developer Conference and for the first time ever, we'll have to pay attention. Why? Because the Sprint Developer Conference will have a heavy focus on our favorite Android OS, with Google Engineers on-site to discuss Android Market and more specifically, Android development. What makes the deal even sweeter is that Sprint will also be giving away 400 HTC Hero units to developers.

Samsung & Sprint to Release 4G/WiMax Android Phone Next Year ?

Casey Chan News Tuesday, 22 September 2009

While Verizon & AT&T have aligned themselves with LTE and T-Mobile is sticking with 21Mbps HSPA+, Sprint has heavily invested in a WiMax network by Clearwire for their 4G-speed offerings. So it's really no surprise that Sprint is planning to release a WiMax-speed smartphone in 2010. What is surprising is that some reports are pointing that device to be a Samsung-built, Android-powered smartphone. Android, Samsung, and WiMax? We're already sold.

It's basically free mobile-to-mobile for any mobile phone in the US.

What's even better is that Any Mobile, Anytime will be offered for free to 'Everything Data' customers which basically means any Sprint...

Best Buy Will Sell Sprint HTC Hero, Better Option Than Buying From Sprint

Casey Chan News Friday, 04 September 2009

Like seemingly every other phone in the world, the HTC Hero will be available at Best Buy. Best Buy Mobile has just announced that they'll be offering up the HTC Hero on October 11th for the same price of $179.99. They'll be the only non-Sprint store that'll sell the Hero so if you have a Best Buy near you but not a Sprint store, you're in luck!

So why is buying the HTC Hero from Best Buy a better deal than buying the phone from a Sprint store? Two words...
