Sprint Football Live

Today some Sprint subscribers got a text letting them know that the new Sprint Football Live app was ready and waiting for download.  I went ahead and grabbed the update (after rolling back to the official Sprint software for the Hero) so I could check it out.  Hit the break for thoughts and some screenshots.

I'll admit I'm not the biggest NFL fan, but this is pretty darn cool.  I had assumed that Sprint passing on renewing the contract with the NFL meant the end for football on the phone for Sprint subscribers, but I couldn't have been more wrong.

While the old version of Sprint NFL Live was a mobile portal to the official NFL website, the new app seems to focus on custom content, and for the time being, a fantasy style mock draft.  Featured blogs include Jay Glazer from FoxSports.com, and the overall feel of the app is more friendly and definitely feels less official.  Whether that's a good thing or not remains to be seen.

From the looks of things fantasy footballers are gonna love this.  You can already get started on the 2010 draft (which doesn't officially start until April 22nd ) with scouting reports, seeing what other users pick and picking your own 2010 draft picks.

A couple of things you need to know here - this won't work on WiFi, nor will it work for customers of other carriers.  Seems to be the new trend with Sprint's custom apps - you need to be authenticated on the Sprint network to use their custom content.  It's also probably not gonna work if you're using one of the leaked Sprint 2.1 builds - at least it didn't here.  But for anyone still running 1.5 on your Hero or Moment, might as well give it a look.  Hit this link http://gospv.com/sfls from your phone, or just run the included older version of NFL Live and you'll be prompted to update.  Then prepare to be crushed my team gbhil's uber draft class of '10.

Thanks for the tip Graham!
