Ringleader

Managing sound profiles on an Android device has been a struggle for me since first picking up a device. Having been used to being able to set different profiles for different occasions and having the ability to keep them saved on the device was something I was very used to, and going from that to a ring / vibrate set up was a big change. The hunt for a profile manager has been a tough one, many different applications have been tried, some which were complex to set up, some which didn't meet the needs. A new application, Ringleader, brings everything that is needed, and more to the table.

This application is extremely easy to set up and manage. Users will set up their system sounds right from within the application, and they can all be managed from one universal screen. Not only can you manage from one single screen, but you can set up various profiles for different areas such as a school profile, work profile, night time profile and more. The Pro version of Ringleader will offer a widget for easy switching as well as a Tasker plug-in to automate the switches. If you are looking for a simple yet effective way to manage your sound profiles on your Android device, this is a must have. For download information be sure to hit the jump.

FINALLY!!! Been lookin' for something like this, thanks Jared! Yeah, comin' from a BlackBerry, I loved how intricate and customizable every little detail was, from sounds, vibration lengths to how many times it vibrates, even per application, and have it different for every "Profile" you set up.

Although it seems like overkill, if you set it up right, it's a Godsend. For example, I used to have it where if I was on my Work profile, the phone would do one long vibrate for a SMS and two short vibrates for Email. That way, I would know what I got without having to take the phone out of my pocket, and then I would decide if it's important enough to read & reply to it now or later.

Anyways, gonna give this one a shot, thanks again =)

These are great comments. I too just came form Blackberry to Android and miss my very customizable sound profiles.. Most important question, though, which BBerry did not have (but I got with a great app called Berry Buzz) - do ANY of these products have REPEATING alerts? Like your vibrate or sound will repeat at intervals if you want - until you "acknowledge?"
Also, do any of these have volume controls? I find the sounds that came with my Android - the alerts for emails, sms, etc,., the volume is very low and not adjustable - at least not that I have found.
Thanks in advance for your help on this.. a few very strong choices here - but I am also really desperate for "repeating" reminders/alerts.
Thank you - Maggie

Drm2Blv I prefer Audio Manager Pro. Especially with it's new Scheduler it's even better than before and as an added cool bonus they have awesome skins for there widget.

The main thing I am concerned about is leaving notifications on while turning of the Ringer volume. I don't care to receive audible notifications for e-mails. Only text messages. Am I missing something? Is there a way to do this quickly and easily on my D'Inc.?

icebike says:

Ringer volumes have nothing to do with Notification Volumes unless you check the box ts slave them together.

I like this app, but one thing I liked about my bb that I miss is the ability to make profiles but then mark certin contacts as exceptions to ring through no matter what the profile is. This way I can set a bed time profile where everything is silent, but my family numbers marked as exceptions and ring through.

hubdju says:

Check out Profile and its associated Whitelist app, both paid. I'm a BB convert, so the control you're describing was something I was missing, too.

Won't work on my DROID X with Zedge Ringtones or the supplied Android ringtones. Every time I click on a ringtone in the applications settings, it locks up and force closes. So far, I have tried setting a ringtone in Facebook and Gmail without any luck. I am not impressed with it in the least.

constant Force Close on stock froyo Evo.

uninstalled after 2 minutes of attempting to use it three times.

I have been using an app that I find far superior in terms of the flexibility and range of settings that can be controlled. The app is Profile and the developer is noimjosh. He responds to emails and rolls out regular upgrades. The app is in the Market.

BTW: Droid Incredible, 2.2

Is there a ringtone app that will allow me to use my own file?

I hope you have a nice day! Very good article, well written and very thought out. I am looking forward to reading more of your posts in the future.

So far, not impressive. It forgot that I use a different sound for Gmail and Google Voice within 24 hours. I'll give it one more day, then I'm on to some other Profile suggestions I am reading about here.

it's a cool concept.
i say concept b/c its a constant FC on a stock Evo.
been waiting for something like this--glad to have heard about it.

I installed the ol' "Profiles" app on my Droid the first day I got it (since I was, like so many others, coming from a BB and couldn't live without the quick sound profile switching ability). I've been happy with it, but have kept my eyes peeled for something that I might like better. Based on the reviews I read about RingLeader, I think I'll just stick with Profiles for now.

hye..I'm new with android mobile phone..how can I download the apps? do I need QR scanner? if yes, where can I download it?

DevonBlakely says:

For QR codes just download "barcode scanner" works great.

If you want ringer profiles set on a daily schedule I use "silencr".

Does this app tell you which profile is currently active somewhere on the main screen?

awjones says:

Yep - the Pro version has a couple widgets that display the current profile and allow you to switch profiles.

Blkbrdrydr says:

I just downloaded Pro version 1.3 and cannot associate it with any of my contacts. Every attempt resulted in a Sorry! The application Ringleader Pro (process com.handyandy.ringerleader.pro) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again

jhasty says:

Outstanding. Greate addition to my Evo.

It would be nicer if you could set the custom ringtones all from its screen rather than going to each app.

ventz says:

This personally drove me nuts. I think I was finally able to solve it in an elegant way, using Tasker. Here are all my Tasker tasks and profiles:
