Galaxy Note

The international versions of the Samsung Galaxy Note are seeing a Jelly Bean update today. Users in the far East and Germany are reporting that they're seeing an OTA to 4.1.2, namely the same JZO54K build that leaked out last November. As a refresher, meet the new change log (same as the old change log) .

  • Android 4.1.2 – Build JZO54K
  • Project Butter
  • Multi-View (can also be disabled)
  • Page Buddy
  • Notification Panel can now be customized
  • New Additions in Notification Panel
  • Smart Rotation
  • New Samsung Keyboard
  • Samsung’s Cloud services
  • Direct Call, Smart Stay and Pop-up Play Features
  • New Widgets From the Galaxy S III
  • 2 Home screen modes
  • New Notifications bar
  • Google Now

Of course this leaves the question of when or if the AT&T and semi-defunct T-Mobile versions here in the states are going to see such a thing. The answer is a resounding "we don't know". The US versions are essentially a Note in name only, and whether or not AT&T and Samsung want to update them is anyone's guess.

If you have the N7000 version though, keep an eye on your status bar or fire up Kies and see if you have an update waiting.

Actually ATT has been pretty quick with the Note updates compared to other carriers and devices. I'm waiting for the N7000 UK OTA which usually follows the German update.

I checked right now with Kies and no update ... it says program up to date.

Am I supposed to do something different for this update? (Italy)

Why not just go with android 4.2.x?

Because the Note 2 isn't even on 4.2 yet.

Manufacturers want you to upgrade to new devices so they can make more money, not continue to update old models. There is no money to be made in updating old models.

Kikoshi says:

You're correct, but without doing the old phone updates, they loose people from wanting to get a new device too.

MERCDROID says:

You're correct; but how much sense would it make for an older phone to have newer software than a company's current flagships?? That would be as much a slap in the face as not updating older phones.

my guess is that they were already working on 4.1.2 before 4.2 and with 4.2 not being that big an update and also not the most stable release i think many oems decided to stick with 4.1.2..even if you look at phones coming out now they all have 4.1.2 as i think that was the most stable android release..also most of the features in 4.2 would require changes in tw ie tw has its own lockscreen design where you can have a weather widget, facebook or rss news ticker and apps shortcuts so i think they would like to leave any major ui changes to tw for the next generation of tw and we will most likely see that first with the s4..makes no sense for samsung to release new tw on old phones...considering the fetures yuu are getting here is more than what you would have got if it was just a straight update of 4.2.2 and most oems rarely put this much new features in updates...take the htc rezound it got stuck with the sense 3.6 instead of getting sense 4.0 where as the galaxy phones that are getting updates are all getting the new ui.

Just upgraded the OG N7000 via Kies here in Toronto. Have a Note2 as well but this is nice.
