Verizon has committed to switching to Google's Android Messages for RCS starting next year.
Google Messenger has picked up an update that renames the app to Android Messages. The app will now be installed on default on handsets from over 20 phone makers as Google pushes ahead with RCS.

Google has finally completed the rollout of RCS in the U.S., despite the lack of support from carriers.
Preempting the carriers, Google is going to let all Android users in the U.S. start using RCS from today. It'll be powered by the Messages application.
On November 14, Google officially flipped the switch and enabled RCS functionality in its Messages app for everyone in the U.S. Have you turned it on yet?
