Sprint kicks off Marshmallow rollout for the Galaxy Note 5 [Update: Note 4 too]

Sprint has kicked off the Marshmallow rollout for the Samsung Galaxy Note 5. While this update bumps the phablet up to Android 6.0, we're also looking at a new version of TouchWiz and more. It's quite the changelog so if you're unprepared for Marshmallow, be ready for a revamped experience on your Note.

Update: We've been made aware of the same update hitting the Galaxy Note 4. Hit us up in the comments if you've also received the update.

Sprint Note 5

Fear not if you haven't been notified on the Note 5 just yet as Marshmallow should hit the device soon. You can check manually by heading into the settings area. Let us know if you've received Marshmallow on your Sprint Note 5 in the comments.

Thanks Vladimir C. and Marioc for the heads up!

  • So when someone buys an Unlocked phone on let's say Att, do they still have to wait for the carrier to release the update? Posted via the Android Central App
  • Unlocked as in bought from Amazon Posted via the Android Central App
  • If it is an AT&T branded phone, you have to wait for the carrier to release it. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Yes. You will have to wait for AT&T to push the Marshmallow update to the phone.

  • Do a factory reset!! lol
  • Hate, hate, hate, the carrier name in the notification bar until you've got another icon to fill that space. Boooooo. I wish we had the system tuner access like the Nexii!
  • Wow, yeah, I thought only AT&T did that. Sprint didn't used to when the phone was unlocked. I think all phones show the carrier information when the phone is locked. My Nexus 5X on T-mobile does. Though the system tuner menu has no option to change the carrier information on the 5X.
  • Smh lol that's terrible! I didn't know this. Just another reason to hate Sprint. But hey at least you're getting Marshmallow. Enjoy the update dude. Posted via Samsung's beast S7
  • At least they don't throttle your Netfilx and YouTube like all the rest are doing!
  • Got the update this morning for my Sprint Note5. I am impressed! Touchwiz looks so much better and the fingerprint scanner is lightning quick now! Definitely on par with the iphone now.
  • So amazing running smoother then ever. The phone feels brand new texting emails and every app feels like its running better then ever. Never thought the 6.0.1 update would be this great. Ive seen the S7 run smoothly but this Note 5 now feels better then ever.
  • That's exactly what happened to my S6 Be Together Not The Same
  • Does anybody know if the note 4 got the new touchwiz?
  • It looks new.
  • Or theme store? Posted via the Android Central App
  • Just got the notification. Downloading now.
  • Does that leave T-mobile?
  • Downloading update now on my Note 4 in Indianapolis.
  • Also...I've heard arguments on both sides, factory reset after update or not necessary. ????
  • I highly recommend it. Seriously Be Together Not The Same
  • Hmm I do it before. Then install the update on top of the freshly reseted phone. Oh yeah :) Posted via Samsung's beast S7
  • If it isn't too much trouble, it is recommended to do that with a major update. Might be the last one the Note 4 sees?
  • I wasn't going to do a factory reset right away however I started having problems with the phone turning on and off randomly. So I did a factory reset and everything is running smoothly again. So I guess those that responded to my inquiry we're right about doing a factory reset after a new OS install. Thanks guys for the input.
  • Still waiting for T Mobile........... .. ....... Posted via the Android Central App
  • Me too! I tweeted this article to John and T-Mobile asking what the problem is. The update page says it is still in mfg. dev??? How can that be if it is now released by Samsung? T-Mo's version is THAT different? Posted via the Android Central App
  • Me too Posted via the Android Central App
  • AT&T is late to the party again as usual. :( Posted via the Android Central App
  • where is my fvcking marshmallow AT&T?
  • AT&T is busy "bastardizing" the code. Look for it in the May-June time span.
  • I agree.....why should it take 6 months for anyone to bring the new version to the Note 5....makes me wanting to return to either an Apple phone or Nexus phone.....shouldn't take this long for an upgrade.....and if you call ATT they are CLUELESS......told me to go to BestBuy to update and BestBuy says the software hasn't been released....
  • I saw this article and instantly said how the hell does Sprint of all providers beat AT&T to this update?! I now have the feeling AT&T will not be pushing Marshmallow to the Note 5 (or the +'s) because there is no way Sprint has better / Faster software engineers. Posted via the Android Central App
  • I'm not trying to be smart, but Sprint is usually the first of the four phone carriers to update. If you don't believe me, just ask aroung to phone nerds like me and do some research.
  • Okay thanks "Phone Nerd" Posted via the Android Central App
  • Just installed it on my Note 5 Sprint
  • Downloading now, thank you! Posted via the Android Central App

  • (note 4) So far im noticing updated icons, new emojis of course, s-pen off screen write, air command looks like the note 5 air command, scroll capture

  • Better battery life and better fingerprint response so far. Galaxy S6 Edge +
  • I advise any Note 5 user who's thinking of jumping ship to the S7 Edge to wait and see how good the Note 5 runs on Marshmallow. It's a night and day difference. Be Together Not The Same
  • Exactly.
  • Thank you Sprint. My note 4 is working better than ever... right when thinking to switch to note 5 . Guess will wait for note 6

  • I was a hoping for themes also. It was one of the first things I looked for.
  • I am at the library with my baby girl and saw sprint sent out marshmallow to the note 4!!!! Won't update till I get home. So excited to get it now to see how to convince my 4 yr old to go home lol!! Good job sprint on beating out the other carriers! Posted via the Android Central App
  • Sprint only beat out T-Mobile and AT&T at the update. Verizon pushed out Marshmallow a couple weeks ago for the Note 5. Posted via the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 on the Sprint Network

  • I don't see much changed. I thought I saw some additional stuff somewhere. Posted via the Android Central App

  • Editing the bubble style in messaging is gone, other than that, way smoother, few visual tweaks, and battery has been a little better than before, nothing major. -note 5 Posted via the Android Central App
  • Something else I have noticed was that I have more storage space on the internal memory now. Before my internal memory was 26GB out of 32GB, now it is 27GB. So Marshmallow seems to have freed up a little space. Anyone else notice this?

  • My wife (who couldn't care less) got hers earlier today. I was the one doing the update and showing her the few new features. I have a Verizon Note 4.. So I may never get it . Posted via the Android Central App
  • What if the phone is rooted... How do you get the update?
  • You have to flash stock firmware with ODIN. Or just flash the update itself with ODIN. Posted via the Android Central App
  • The question for me right now is weighing between losing root but getting marshmallow update or keeping root and be deprived of marshmallow. Just can't win...
  • You can root marshmallow. I am rooted with TWRP installed and Xposed and viper4android all working. All you have to do is Flash TWRP through Odin and then Flash Super SU 2.68 with TWRP. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Good to know. I'll look into this. Thanks for your reply.
  • Hi,
I was able to update to marshmallow. I would like to reroot, which version of twrp recovery do I use and where can I get super su 2.68 as well as xposed and viper4android? Is there any how to guide? Thanks

  • My GPS radio seems VASTLY improved as does my 4G. When I could only get 1 bar of LTE at home I now get 3 bars. Rocking the Note 4

  • Did any one else notice they removed the ability to schedule messages in Marshmallow
  • I have the SPRINT version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and I received & downloaded the Update to 6.0.1 today. Two issues: 1). I never received the original Marshmallow upgrade (6.0) and I'm wondering if I should have/if that's a problem, and 2) The list of Marshmallow Features (6.0 & 6.0.1) don't exactly match what is on my Note 5 (such as the lock screen - the Marshmallow features list shows it should have a VOICE PROMPT ICON on the bottom left and the camera on the bottom right, and the phone icon should be gone, but my Note 5 with 6.0.1 shows the phone icon on the left and the camera on the right -no voice icon/prompt anywhere on the lock screen). I could write a long list of missing/different features, although clearly my Note 5 shows changes have been made, but I'm concerned. Any help/advice???
  • I received the Sprint download last week. I loved the look and the new set-up but have found two very frustrating problems: 1) It drains my battery super fast to the point I almost need to charge it twice a day and 2) It has completely locked me out because I have fingerprint access set up and although I know what my password is, it keeps telling me that is not the right password and I have to wait another hour to try again. I can't have a snafu like this as my Note 5 is my only phone. I was given two options, either a factory reset (wipes my phone clean and I start over, so not an option) or take it to the local repair place which has absolutely the worst reviews on the interwebs. I chose the second option because I cannot afford to lose everything off of my phone. I have friends who are Varizon customers and they said when it happened to them Verizon just pushed out a fix to their phone and they were on their merry way. Why don't the Sprint techs you contact via the web have this same type of fix? It is the only time I regret being a Sprint client and I have been a client for a great many years. I am hoping this is resolved quickly and easily.
  • Last Tuesday I accepted the MM update from Sprint for my Note 5 and nothing will sync properly. Neither of my two google accounts, my exchange server account or my social network accounts. Anyone else experiencing this and have recommendations to fix it?
