PayPal announces app for Android Wear

PayPal has announced an app for Android Wear. The app will initially roll out to PayPaly's beta community, eventually rolling out to all Android Wear devices in the coming weeks. The app will let users check in to pay at local stores, redeem offers, receive payment notifications, all on their Android Wear device. PayPal also posted some screenshots of the app.

PayPal for Android Wear

This isn't PayPal's first foray into apps for wearables, nor their deep integration with Android devices. Back in April, PayPal released an app for Samsung's Gear 2 and Gear Fit devices. With the release of the Galaxy S5, the company took advantage of the device's fingerprint sensor to build secure mobile payments into their Android app.

  • Be nice to be able to touch my watch to pay. The technology is comfortably there now, but it seems the willingness to implement it isn't n5
  • That was my thought too. That'd be very cool and very convenient. I wonder if any of these three upcoming Wear devices have NFC on board.
  • Something in the band or even in the clasp would be amazing, that way I could see my watch and wouldn't have to contort my wrist if it was put in the body of the watch.
  • Anyone know how to signup to this PayPal beta community?
