HTC reportedly cooking up two Nexus products with Google

HTC is reportedly building a pair of Nexus products in partnership with Google, likely for release later this year. The devices are said to be built around Android N, and according to noted leaker Evan Blass, the devices have the codenames M1 and S1.

Apart from that, there's not much to say about these supposed devices. Previous rumors also point to HTC creating the 2016 Nexus phone (or phones), we as we've previously pointed out, getting into the Nexus game might be a smart move for HTC to make.

  • HTC can definitely make nice looking phones. Wasnt a fan of the 6Ps design. As garbage as the HTC 626s was internally I wouldn't mind a phone looking like that with flagship specs :) Posted via the Android Central App
  • Well this is the year I upgrade to my next Nexus. Hopefully Google and HTC knocks this out the park.
  • That's what I'm hoping! Posted via the Android Central App
  • I'm not sure I'm particularly pleased with this news. For some reason, I'd prefer new Nexuses from pretty much anyone but HTC.
  • They made the first Nexus device.
  • i get what you were trying to say but that could also suggest they never went back for a good reason.
  • It could also say that internal politics or some politics somewhere dictated they bounce around from manufacturer to manufacturer. I know in some parts of a previous job I worked we had to bounce around from vendor to vendor to keep from breaching certain contracts. For those in the company that didn't know that bit of information, we looked like morons doing what we did. But it kept that company from breaking contracts. I have no clue if that is the reasons they do what they do, but I do know it happens.
  • thank you for supplying the most unlikely of reasons.
  • Well that doesn't speak well of you. Makes you seem stupid. Posted from the Star Destroyer The Finalizer in General Hux's bedroo above Moraband.

  • I agree. Want the 6P with the 820, wireless charging, and real USB 3.1. And that's all.
But anyone but HTC would be preferable. Have my M8. There's a reason it's running cyanogenmod, and I'm waiting for the Nexus.
Although, if the Vive is any indication, maybe HTC finally has decided to have quality internal construction for once in their history. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Bring it. I buy nexus anyway and Huawei made a great unit this year, I expect just as nice if not better from HTC. People still rave about the Nexus one. Posted via the Android Central App
  • how will HTC make money of this Nexus phones don't sell( in any real numbers let's be honest guys) :( Posted from my Nexus 6/Nexus 7 2013/Surface Pro 3
  • Has it been proven that previous Nexus manufacturers make money?
  • Idk but definitely nothing more than jack siht Posted from my Nexus 6/Nexus 7 2013/Surface Pro 3
  • I have no idea what your comment means.
  • He's saying nexus phone's don't generally sell well. And they don't.
  • Lol I'm saying Nexus phones don't sell Posted from my Nexus 6/Nexus 7 2013/Surface Pro 3
  • That is very true. The 6p although sold a lot and it was sold out for a while. I don't think Google really cares how much it sells. They make the most money off ads and marketing. The nexus line is for loyal fans and developers. Plus it's a good way to try new things they've added to android. I didn't think I would like my n6 this much. It's still my go to phone. Like it better than my s6, moto x, g3 and oneplus one. My next phone will most likely be the s6 though. But if htc and nexus can hit it out of the park then that will be great too. • Google needs to find a way to promote and sell nexus phones through the carriers. I know they tried with the nexus 6 but that thing was just too big.
I love the galaxy note line but that nexus 6 was just too wide and heavy. For a person my age with neck and hand arthritis it's hard to find a compromise between big display and light weight. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Ya know the gs5 would have been perfect for you that phone is really light. Posted from my Nexus 6/Nexus 7 2013/Surface Pro 3
  • I wound up with the s7 edge and honestly there are days that it hurts holding it.
I've owned the g2, g3, and a couple nexus 5's but always have had an issue with non amoled displays. I love the punchy colors. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Google just needs to set up a financing program. Consumers are not used to shelling out $500 or more in one shot for a phone.
  • They actually have this for Project Fi users, hopefully they'll expand it to the Google store this round. Posted via the AC App on my Nexus 6P
  • They did that with both Project Fi, and with Huawei directly (through Affirm).
  • That's such an American thing to say but you are probably right for the US.
  • I would've purchased a 6P if the Canadian carriers offered more than just the 32gb model. Posted via Xperia Z5
  • It must be for brand awareness, since Google took a turn and did a lot of advertising last baseball/football season with the 5x and 6p ... I was gonna grab the HTC 10 to use for work but might as well wait a few months and see what they come up with. The 6p is gonna be tough to beat.
  • why are you worried about htc making money ?
  • Because they are a struggling business duh Posted from my Nexus 6/Nexus 7 2013/Surface Pro 3
  • Off of being affiliated with Google and their marketing. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Nice HTC designs are the best, glad the Nexus is from HTC.
  • Well, I hope there are more than two Nexus devices this year. I'm not a fan of HTC.

  • Yeah... remember when Google didn't want to support cards anymore? And now they've found a way to love them? Posted via the Android Central App
  • Sort of. I actually wonder if adoptable storage was developed for Ara modules and they expanded it to work for SD cards to test out the function. Posted via the AC App on my Nexus 6P
  • Well Ara is dead unfortunately. Posted from my Nexus 6/Nexus 7 2013/Surface Pro 3
  • Maybe, maybe not. I'm holding out until I/O to see if they mention it or not before I'm convinced it's dead. They have posted that they're making changes but still have progress on their official Twitter, at least, so who knows. Posted via the AC App on my Nexus 6P
  • Dude they haven't posted anything since November. Posted from my Nexus 6/Nexus 7 2013/Surface Pro 3
  • December, but your point stands. At the same time, I'd argue that it's always been in a development stage and Google advertised it too early - like Glass - so it may still become something. And there's the Google Rewards question that went out a couple months ago that gauged interest in something Ara-like. I'm not holding my breath, but I wouldn't call it dead yet, just way harder than they anticipated, and not something to plan on as a next phone. Like I said, the real sign will be if there's no mention of it at I/O. Posted via the AC App on my Nexus 6P
  • I got the same Google Rewards survey. Posted via the Android Central App
  • I also remember the AC staffs blind loyalty to the subject and it going from SD cards suck in 2014 to yaaaaay in 2015 Posted from my Nexus 6/Nexus 7 2013/Surface Pro 3

  • Lumia 1520 FTW! j/k
  • Appealing device actually, but I don't think I could use Windows on mobile. Though as a second device I would like to try one of the new high end phones with continuum when available.
  • Yeah. The surface phone is a little intriguing.

  • You're obsessed with the word "suck". Is that your job or just a hobby?
  • Unless you are really into the "Pure Android" scene, I would go ahead and jump for the 10.
  • I like the 10. I do. Just waiting for it to become cheaper.
  • Can't wait...real aluminum. :-) Posted via the Android Central App
  • I doubt it.
  • I wouldn't hate it. loved the nexus 1 (even though they bailed with the verizon version) and if they modeled it after the HTC 10, would be a great device.
  • HTC..? Ruh roh!
  • Hopefully this means good audio quality for the Nexus line
  • I'm enjoying my plan of buying a half-price Nexus just before the next model comes out. Unlocked Marshmallow Nexus 6 on Verizon. I'm a happy guy.
  • Yeah, it's going to be a tough decision this fall. Go for discounted 6P or HTC. Leaning towards Going full price and HTC. I know the 6P runs great with the SD810 but there is just something that turns me off about it. Posted from Nexus 6 running Android N
  • Completely agree about the sd810 and going for the new as well. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Yea, my n is hanging on and didn't upgrade to 6p due to reviews saying at some instances the phone will stutter. Posted via the Android Central App
  • must be very few instances ... phone flies, should be good for awhile and the 810 is nearly identical (in noticeable performance) to the 820 ... the HTC Nexus phones should be pretty cool if you're not feeling the 6p though. glad Google is sticking with two versions.
  • smart, I'm gonna do the same when I retire my 6p ... the upgrades have reached a plateau, and I'd rather use the cash on something else.
  • Sony needs this partnership too Posted via the Android Central App
  • +1! Posted via the Android Central App
  • I am not a fan of HTC ohjh I am not a fan of LG or Samsung bla bla... I am a Nexus fan and don't care who makes it. My Nexus 6p is just awesome
  • Between my wife and I we've owned an original Nexus, two Galaxy Nexuses (GSM), a Nexus 5 and a 6. Each one of these phones has been amazing in it's own right. Anyone who doesn't buy a Nexus is really missing out on what Android is supposed to be.
  • huawei and lg are just garbage we need some premium quality nexus phone please go with sony, htc or samsung with better camera.
  • Well, good news for HTC. They need to keep moving forward in getting their moxie back, and doing this will help. I didn't even know who Huawei was until they did the 6P, that is aside from the Mate S with the potato for a video camera.
  • Keep the stereo front facing speakers. Keep the bezels slim and keep the fingerprint sensor on the back. While the 10 is an OKAY phone its honestly not the best HTC phone HTC ever made that being the HTC M7 and its Desire/Butterfly designs. Especially the ugly huge chamfered edges on the back. Keep it Nexus 6P like which is an attractive design. #TeamFrosty Nexus 6P
  • Good deal,I look forward to seeing the new nexus devices in the fall and I too hope there is a nice 7" or 8" tablet as well. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Bring it on
Make the big one at least 6"
  • As someone whose first Android device used was the HTC Nexus One, if this is true, it's almost nostalgic to me, even though they'll be completely different animals. I'd say bring it on. If the H10 is any indication, they can make some pretty great devices, especially after their big comeback with said phone.
  • Bring back the track ball! No, wait... Posted via the Android Central App
  • This fall is gonna be an exciting time to buy a phone. Note, Nexus or maybe a discount HTC 10. I'm hoping Force Touch makes its way to Android N. I think it's a great feature with a ton of upside.
  • HTC boomsound anyone? If they bring it to the Nexus I'm going to have a tough time trying to hold on to my nexus 6p plus I always get nerdy when a new one comes out every year. Posted via the Android Central App
  • I seem like the minority in these comments. But I actually really like my Huawei 6p. I hope HTC will keep the rear finger print sensor. Huawei/Google hit it out of the park with this feature. Posted via the Android Central App
  • I love my 6P. Fantastic looking device in its uniqueness. HTC design is awfully generic these days not forgetting that their best device was the M7 in looks and appearence #TeamFrosty Nexus 6P
  • I hope they make a 5.3 and 5.7 phone with great high end build quality like the 6P and HTC 10. Some smaller bezels would be nice and rear mount fingerprint scanner Posted via the Android Central App
  • I guess only way to boost profit is to build a device backed by a bigger corporation. All I'm asking is amoled display better than 6p. Posted via the Android Central App
  • I think the display on my 6p is fantastic ... definitely one of its better attributes.
  • Hopefully it comes with AMOLED. It better come with AMOLED. A good quality panel too. No LCD please HTC. You've not made a good one since the M8 #TeamFrosty Nexus 6P
  • Meh the lcd screens are fine as well like the ones in HTC 10, iPhones. They look great, its just a preference.
  • Oh God, this isn't good...
  • HTC 10 now and HTC Nexus later down the year. Great year for smartphones along with some good phones like S7 edge for normal people who don't care about software experience.
  • Nice backhand compliment to Samsung idiot lol. The software is great on the S7 and S7 edge. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Finally!! time to retire my original nexus 5. hope this is a good one :D
  • I guess I'll just have to wait and see what HTC does before I get a new Nexus. Posted via my Nexus 6
  • I'll hold a tiny bit of hope we might see these unveiled at i/o next month
  • Not a chance!
  • Ooh, a medium sized phone and a small (compact) phone? Yes please! :P
  • I would much rather have a nexus than any other phone on the market ty very much Posted via the Android Central App
  • *Crosses fingers* Big Battery, SD card, Big Battery SD card,Big Battery, SD card, Big Battery SD card Big Battery, SD card, Big Battery SD card Big Battery, SD card, Big Battery SD card G5 but I should have gotten a Moto X PE
  • Nice! Moto XPE/VZW Moto X DE/N7
  • All im asking is an amold screen, better battery life than my 6p, same camera quality with ois (better is always welcome but 6P takes clearest shots out of any phone when still) and better NAND storage speed. Nexus phones has the worst storage speed which is a bottleneck in its overall performance, and of course the not confirmed but no doubt about it coming 4gbs of ram and the SD 820 Posted via the Android Central App
  • This is going to be interesting. I've always wanted a Nexus phone. Actually I had the 6P on order and then AT&T came out with the buy one get one free with the 7 Edge... So I got two instead of one... And the 7 Edge is a very fine phone. Now if the new Nexus comes out with comparable stats etc to the 7 Edge, I'm selling the 7 Edge and getting the new Nexus phone. Swapping out a Samsung for an HTC, Ehhh... Not my favorite idea... We'll see how things turn out when the new Nexus comes out... I like simple and robust in a very basic way. Efficient and fast. I might even give Apple a spin. Who knows... Posted via the Android Central App
  • So an LCD display then? No thanks. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Bring it On Google. SD820 and SD830 phones. With MicroSD slot. 4000mah battery. 4GB and 6GB RAM. That's a lot to ask. But one can dream about it right? Angler/Shamu/Mako
  • After swearing I'd never buy a 6P once I heard it was being made by Huawei, I no longer care at all which manufacturer is making the Nexus device. All that matters is the quality once it's released, nothing more. Absolutely LOVE my 6P.
  • Need a proper Nexus Pro tablet. I'm actually considering an iPad Pro 9.7 to replace my Nexus 7 2013. But I'd really rather not make the leap. Posted via the Android Central App
  • If HTC can actually put a good camera in a phone, I'll get excited.
