If a recent rumor out of Weibo is to be believed, Samsung will launch a special edition of the Galaxy Note 8 in its home market. Dubbed the Galaxy Note 8 Emperor Edition, the phone will feature 6GB of RAM and 256GB storage. Samsung is set to launch the special edition alongside the standard model, which is expected to feature 6GB of RAM and 64GB storage.

The leakster also mentions that the Emperor Edition will be debuting in China following its availability in South Korea. The variant is unlikely to be sold outside of Asian markets, but as SamMobile notes, Samsung may launch a Galaxy Note 8 model with 6GB of RAM and 128GB storage in North America, Europe, and South America with a price tag in the vicinity of $1,100.

Other rumored specs of the Galaxy Note 8 include dual 12MP cameras at the back, a 6.3-inch Infinity Display, Snapdragon 835 chipset, and a 3300mAh battery. The device is expected to be offered in three color options at launch — Midnight Black, Orchid Grey, and a new Deep Blue variant.

The phone is slated for an official unveil on August 23, so we should know more in the coming weeks.

Update: The Weibo leaker (Ice Universe) amended his post to state that the special edition Note 8 will offer 6GB of RAM and 256GB storage, and not 8GB of RAM as initially predicted. We've updated the article to reflect the same.

  • STOP WITH THE REGIONAL VARIENTS ALREADY! it's getting out of hand now. I get that with some manufacturers there's some licensing infringements etc that stop them adding certain features but Samsung and LG (there's more I'm sure?) are just doing it because they THINK they know what each market wants or needs.
  • AFRIGGINMEN
  • lol
  • Why does it bother you so much? Buy what you want.
  • Because not being in Asia we often less impressive models. Here in Europe we only got the LG G6 with 32gb storage, no wireless charging and no Hifi DAC whereas the US and Asia got 64gb and either wireless charging or Hifi DAC yet we actually got charged more for that phone for less features.
  • Sure but there are ways to get these of you want them.
And in cases like this note emperor version most people here in NA don't need either of those spec bumps so why would an one waste resources marketing something that will not sell well?
  • I'd buy it. At least offer it on your website Samsung.
  • People like choices. Not to be told what what features they need or want based on their region
  • I'd buy it if it was offered... Just saying
  • Who are you to say what we need in NA guy? I would prefer to buy the 256gb note with 6gig of ram vs 64gb. why don't you say you wouldn't shell out the money for it vs most people here in NA don't need either. Jump in the lake partner!
  • I used to share the same sentiment...Until I'd lived in South Korea, and here's what is learned:
    1. There's better utilization of specs in Asia in contrast to the US . They don't throttle customers & have world-class connectivity being that the place is so small.
    2. As a result, the market knows that specs is a mere luxury and/or for those looking to replace the need for a laptop (in China, as well) yet otherwise it's not a necessity because the connectivity is so great. If an 8gb RAM device hits American soil, companies will make it's specs standard and sh:t on their customers with mid-tier devices. Koreans just started getting rid of their galaxy s3 & even that's by choice.
  • 🎯💯
  • Samsung really have to have something groundbreaking to justify the price tag. 100€ more than the S8+ launch price is a lot, especially now after the Plus is around 650€. In the past the Note was bringing a bunch of software additions to the ordinary models plus the improved SoC and other hardware. The Note 8 looks like an S8+ with a pen and maybe marginally better camera(s). At least the S8 prices will go down a little more and will become a great value if the Note isn't worth it.
  • I wonder what the NORTH Korean version will be called.
  • Probably a declaration of War
  • The stone tablet edition.
  • It will undoubtedly have it's own em Launcher, though Samsung told us it was aimed squarely at the West. (I'll get my coat.... )
  • What else. The Dear Leader version, of course.
  • The "Dear Leader" Edition?
  • or the
    "Chairman and Supreme Leader" edition.
  • Don't know why Korean companies like to do different market models..... And us version is always the lowest one
  • Having lower specs in the US market is what worked for Apple: As a result, the demand created the need for carriers to avoid gimmicks, like throttling
  • Wait, special edition with just 6GB, when OnePlus offer 6gb as the basis? does that mean that this super expensive phone with poor battery size will come with 4GB? dubbed with poor memory management? hmm... One month to find out, but those editions of already super expensive high-end phone are ridiculous, heck look at the Mate 9 Porsche Edition, wtf is this???
  • It clearly says 8gb?
  • No it clearly says 6gb not 8gb.... "Dubbed the Galaxy Note 8 Emperor Edition, the phone will feature 6GB of RAM and 256GB storage. Samsung is set to launch the special edition alongside the standard model, which is expected to feature 6GB of RAM and 64GB storage."
  • My eyes must be lying then. I'm going to literally copy and paste what I see in the item above me - unless they've edited it already but yours is still not changed? If a recent rumor out of Weibo is to be believed, Samsung will launch a special edition of the Galaxy Note 8 in its home market. Dubbed the Galaxy Note 8 Emperor Edition, the phone will feature 8GB of RAM and 256GB storage. Samsung is set to launch the special edition alongside the standard model, which is expected to feature 6GB of RAM and 64GB storage.
  • Seems they changed it on you from when the article was first posted hence why when I looked it showed 6gb ram for both models  "The Weibo leaker (Ice Universe) amended his post to state that the special edition Note 8 will offer 6GB of RAM and 256GB storage, and not 8GB of RAM as initially predicted. • read much?
  • "...standard model, which is expected to feature 6GB of RAM..."
  • That 3300 mAh battery makes me sad.
  • Well remember how they complained about the battery in the s8 plus . Which turned out to be pretty good by all measures
  • Is that only reserved for that "fat boy" in North Korea? That's the only emperor in Asia I know currently exists.
  • Clearly you don't know much.
  • I WANT the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Emperor Edition with the 256GB Storage and 6GB of RAM here in the US for Myself and ALL of the Other Note Fans that were FORCED to get rid of Our Note 7 due to the Recalls. Samsung Should make things Right and Bring that Here to the US instead of just 1 or 2 select Markets that Don't include the US. There's a Lot of Dedicated Samsung Fans who would Snatch up the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Emperor Edition as soon as it's available up for Pre-Sale and also when it is available for Direct Sale. Samsung, don't constantly teasing us with what We Can't have! Samsung, Make the Phones Available Worldwide that Everyone can get and not just a select few markets alone! Everyone who feels the same about this, Please let's All Speak as One LOUD Voice that Samsung Can Hear and Will have to Listen to. Comment on this, Meaasge Samsung about this, Message Your Carrier about this, and let's get together and have them Make a Change for Us the Customers who Purchase their Products.
  • Samsung is in charge of what they sell and where they sell it, sadly.
Besides, I'm sure they already calculated the expected revenue for the Emperor model and I'm also certain that, according to their calculations, it's not profitable to bring it to the international market.
  • Samsung is Not the Only one in that Decision. The Carriers Are involved in that Decision as well. The Carriers talk with the Manufacturers and say Yeah or Nah to What Models, Features, and or Specs that they Want for their Customers. But, Now that the Carriers have gotten away from the Contract / Subsidies We Should be able to Purchase Directly from the Manufacturers what "WE THE CUSTOMERS" Want and or Need, since We are Now Paying FULL PRICE for the Phones.
  • Going to be the one who asks "What launcher is that?" I like the clean look and that Google Search "pill" on the side...
  • Easily done with Nova Launcher as it allows for custom icons and has a variety of Pill search icons.
  • Thanks!
  • I'm really disappointed. First they could not embed the finger print scanner in the screen. Then it looks like a S8+plus with a S pen. Really no upgrades. And then they want to hike up the price. And if there going to offer a better phone in Korea and China. They should offer it in all markets. I have been waiting for the Note 8 all year. I waited all year and would not upgrade. To a better phone. But now I'm on the fince. They better have something to wow me. That we don't know about. I'm really disappointed I love my note 5. But I just don't know what I'm going to do.
  • The dual cameras are enough to wow me and make me want to trade up from my s8
  • Just wait for the details.
  • First off it's not necessarily a better phone. Just more ram and gb some that a 256 memory card can fix . I'm pretty sure 6 gigs of ram should have the n8 humming like a bird. My s8 with 4 gigs has been super fast since day one. The big question is a re you prepared to pay over $1,200 for a cell phone
  • Even with the battery on the 7, isn't the Note 5 the weakest one?
  • I will wait to get mine on Craigslist for a substantial discount. Just got an s8+ for 500. The Note 8 will drop quickly too. Just be patient.
  • you'll opt for a trade in as u wait for the Note 9
  • All that and it doesn't have a removable battery, so it's only good for a year or so. No thanks.
  • LoL only a year huh?
  • I'm loving my S8+ but I prefer the slightly wider screens on the Note line (less typos). But why are the batteries getting weaker?
  • Weaker are smaller, but the processors are getting so much better Samsung is go to play it save this year if you want a bigger battery get the s8 active 4000 amp
  • Why does Samsung avoid Red Argggg
  • This would be a +$1000 phone I could live with and not feel price-gouged.
  • Well particularly if you take advantage of US interest free financing AND it receives updates for at least three years.
