Galaxy Note 8.0

Now on sale at Best Buy, Future Shop, Staples and other authorized retailers for $429

Launching nearly simultaneously with the U.S., Canadians can now get their hands on a Galaxy Note 8.0 from one of several retailers. We seem to be looking at pretty much the exact same stylus-toting tablet as down in the states, with a 1280x800 8-inch display, Exynos 4412 quad-core processor, 16GB of storage, 2GB of RAM and a camera on each side. Of course on the software front we're looking at Android 4.1 with all of the extras that TouchWiz brings -- including stylus-optimized apps. The one thing that's different up in Canada is the price.

While the official Samsung materials tell you to "visit your nearest retailer", we're seeing a $429 price tag for the device at both Best Buy and Future Shop. That's a $30 premium over what is generally being charged at U.S. retailers for the moment. Any Canadians out there going to pick this one up? Let us know in the comments.

Picked one up. Disappointed in the price, and the fact we don't even get the $25 google credit our neighbours get, but otherwise, it's a pretty slick device.

Nice device but it's how much more expensive than an iPad Mini in Canada and it's 30 dollars less than an iPad Mini with wifi+Cellular capabilities. Ipad Mini's run for 329. While it's hard to compare the two tablets based on those two points alone, I can get a 32GB iPad mini for 429. I can get more apps with the ipad Mini than I can in the Google Play Store too. Hmmm.

If you want to compare it to the mini, you have to take into consideration that it has a lower screen resolution, is limited to a maximum of 32GB of storage, with no possible on board expansion and has no wacom support. Since I was looking for expandability and the pen support, not to mention that my entire ecosystem is android, the mini was not an option for me. I'm sure apple has many endearing qualities, but they are not for me.

I do agree with what you said, but the one big issue Samsung and every other Android OEM is making, internal storage. This comes with 16GB which is insufficient for app storage, what do you have left maybe 10GB of apps. They should put at least 32GB of internal storage and make the microSD slot support up to 128GB like they can do.

Great hardware, with some issues. I am looking for a new tablet but given the current crop of Android offerings I will just have to use my current tablet for now.

comparing an iPad mini to the Note 8.0 is a waste of time. The 8.0 runs productivity circles around the iPad, or the Mini. Handwriting capability should be the standard for these mini tablets. Here is why.. there are still some people that don't type very fast even with all of the years they've had texting. Handwriting capability on a tablet is natural and you can be unique.. plus in many cases it's faster for many people. Pulling out the pen and automatically get a virtual piece of paper to write on without hitting backspace or fighting with auto correct is priceless. Students, Reporters, Professionals, etc..

Trust me.

I just got my Note 8.0 and it is a brilliant partner to my Note II I only wish Sammy would of kept the radio's intact for North America as I would of used it as my phablet. Its an awesome little tablet but it is overpriced..I bit the bullet and bought one. $350 would be a fair price but Sammy is starting to follow the Apple path to Premium price.....I feel for our Canadian brothers up north who get to pay even more....sorry guys..

I would get this to replace my Note 2 if it had the radio to make calls. Ill see if I can get the international version online somewhere.

you can try asian website, i ordered one and waiting for 7 may when it will be deliverd to replace my Note haha

Well I bought one tried it returned it. Worked super. If you love the pen this is the tablet for you. For me I wanted something newer. Though this is new its just smaller with a few touch up on some apps and faster. Like others almost all said.. its just a tad over priced.

I want to see how good Sony Xperia Z is and then Toshiba is coming out with a Tegra 4 as is (maybe) HP and Visio and so on.

Picked one up for my wife to study with, the pen was a big draw and I wasn't too worried about the price as I had a $300 credit at a retailer to use. It's nice as far as tablets go, the digitizer is much nicer than just a stylus on a touchscreen. Probably where the higher price comes from.

Pretty disappointed I can't get the $25 google play credit. BOOOOOOO @ samsung and google, probably mostly google.
