Interface improvements that make booking and managing reservations easier

OpenTable has taken a big step forward in interface design today with an update to v2.5 of its app, which makes several much-needed changes. First up is the mapping experience, which is dramatically improved thanks to Google Maps v2, and now gives you more freedom to browse the map in different areas and have reduced pin clutter from lots of restaurants. Next are the restaurant pages, which have received a facelift as well. You can now modify your reservation -- date, time and party size -- right from the restaurant page rather than your account. OpenTable has also improved the load times of menus and reviews for restaurants.

A much-awaited feature of being able to add reservations to your calendar has also been added -- no more excuses for missing a dinner reservation. All of these new features can be accessed much easier as well thanks to general improvements to the navigation elements in the app that have been moved to the top action bar, reducing the number of times you have to jump back and forth between the settings. You can grab a download of the new OpenTable app from the Play Store link above.

does Open Table and partner restaurants send spam? i'm afraid to sign up for this reason.

Insp_Gadget says:

No. They do offer a monthly newsletter (which you can easily opt out of) letting you know about restaurants that you can try that will gain you extra points or to let you know about Restaurant Week or other special events. I've found that to be useful.

Never had a restaurant or other third-party contact me as a result of using OpenTable.

Hi there!

We definitely don't spam our users. You are easily able to manage all your email preferences for frequency when you sign up.

And, if you ever have any issues, just send me a tweet @OpenTable!

has this update improved battery life drain? The old version of this app killed my battery life - even when I hadn't used it in days and had closed it.

Insp_Gadget says:

Never had that issue, with it running or not.

Hello...

We have taken steps to improve battery life of the app by turning off the GPS when its no longer needed.

Hope this is helpful.

as someone who worked in the restaurant industry cooking away, i asked some questions about open table. I will not make reservations using Open Table as it costs the restaurant a fair bit compared to just phoning in and talking to someone maybe its just me, [ i did use it in the past and its convient to choose a time ] I also understand why smaller seat restaurants dont belong its expensive for them annual fee plus reservation fee.
