We've got some good news and some bad news for you Dropcam owners out there. If you own one of the older Original or Echo models, the bad news is you won't be able to use it for much longer. The good news is that the company is going to make it up by sending you a new one for free.
Dropcam, which is now under Google's wing, explained the decision to stop supporting its original and Echo models via a support FAQ:
We're always trying to improve Dropcam and the software behind it. But that means some features won't work with our older Dropcam models. As we improve Dropcam, we'll no longer be able to give Original Dropcam and Dropcam Echo owners an experience that meets our standards. So we decided to stop supporting these products and offer owners a free replacement Dropcam HD camera.
Dropcam notes that both models will continue to work until April 15th, after which point they will cease to record.
If you're up for a free replacement, however, the company will send you a new Dropcam HD to make amends after you fill out a replacement form, which can be found at the source link below.
