Samsung Galaxy S

Samsung has long promised that the Galaxy S line of phones would see Froyo, and we even had leaks of internal testing just last week and the appearance of the update yesterday. Now Samsung has gone and made the update official, and it is available now for those in Norway, Denmark, and Sweeden using Samsung's own Kies update program. Samsung says that the update is only for the "Nordic regions" thus far, but the rest of Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas should see it in time. Until then, any takers on how long it takes the guys at XDA to create an unofficial version for everyone to use? Check out the full list of features past the link (hint: the JIT and Flash 10.1 are on board) and the press release after the break. [via BriefMobile]

Samsung Galaxy S Froyo rollout starting in Europe

And that makes sense how? We basically got the phones last and there are 4 different major versions of said phone, non of which are the same as the international Galaxy S phone.

It really annoys me that Samsung are still trying to promote their stupid Kies application.

For 80% of people Kies just doesn't work if you read many many websites and forum posts. For me it doesn't work either, so Samsung are completely shafting a huge percentage of their customer base by not following protocol and posting Android OS updates out over the air in the normal fashion that other manufacturers do.

I'm not buying a any more Samsung devices until they decide to get with the program and actually support their customer base rather than alienate them.

Why do you need their application ? This is an Android phone so you have plenty of options to synchronize media, contacts. And for applying updates there is a better solutions anyway if you're not carrier tied. It's called Odin. Try to evolve a little bit from the Nokia/Apple "my phone only works with my apps" era.

Samsung really needs to get their heads out of their rear ends and come out with Froyo 2.2. here in the United States. They are so slow about these updates. We need it before the gingerbread update comes out.

Hah! I have the Fascinate so all hope is lost for me. First it's gotta make it to the US... then you know Verizon is gonna have to add their bloatware and bing to it. I love this phone but i'm not anticipating an update anytime soon. Screw froyo and gingerbread, where's my honeycomb?

Im already running Froyo on my Captivate based off a leaked build, and im happy with that. Dont wait on your carrier, We will be last to get the final release of Froyo in the states

The message from Samsung is from the future!

I thought that Froyo was supposed to bring us 270 degree rotatable home screens? Why is that phone on it's side with the icons pointing the wrong way???

I am tempted to go back to my storm.

Considering I can't even get the recent fix/update for the Captivate, I don't have much hope for ever getting the 2.2 update.

Hey we just wrote a guide on how to update your GT-i9000 device right now regardless of country, through a registry hack with Kies. Check it out here ht tp : // bit . ly / bNP jMJ
