MetroPCS adding more high-speed data to some plans, Music Unlimited arrives to save your data

T-Mobile's prepaid carrier MetroPCS is adding 1GB of extra high-speed data to many of its plans. It is also bringing over Music Unlimited from its parent company, which will allow users to stream from 33 music services without impacting their data plan.

In addition, MetroPCS is adding what it calls Data Maximizer to its family plans (2 or more lines):

With the new Data Maximizer, MetroPCS customers can watch up to three times more streaming video from nearly all video services—from YouTube to Netflix to your friend's Periscope feed. T-Mobile's proprietary technology achieves this by optimizing streaming video for mobile device screens, maximizing resolutions at DVD or better quality while minimizing data consumption. And, as always with the Un-carrier, the customer is in control. MetroPCS customers can simply turn Data Maximizer off and on at any time in their personal MetroPCS account settings.

Here are the new features for the family plans on MetroPCS:

  • $25 a month – Unlimited talk, text & data with 1GB of 4G LTE data for each line, with Data Maximizer
  • $35 a month – Unlimited talk, text & data with 3GB of 4G LTE data for each line (up from 2GB), now with Music Unlimited, Data Maximizer
  • $45 / month – Unlimited talk, text & data with 5GB of 4G LTE data for each line (up from 4GB), now with Music Unlimited, Data Maximizer
  • $55 / month – Unlimited talk, text and 4G LTE data on your smartphone + 8GB of Mobile Hotspot tethering for each line (up from 6GB), now with Music Unlimited, Data Maximizer

Single line plans are just $5 a month more. The new prices go into effect on Thursday, November 17.
