Minecraft: Story Mode coming out in 2015 from Telltale Games and Mojang

In a major surprise, Telltale Games announced today it was teaming up with developer Mojang to create Minecraft: Story Mode, an episodic game series that will be released sometime in 2015 that's based on Mojang's hugely popular sandbox game.

Telltale Games states:

Set in the world of Minecraft, the series will feature an original story, driven by player choice. It will not be an add-on for Minecraft, but rather a separate stand-alone product that will premiere in 2015 on consoles, computers and mobile devices. Telltale's game series will mix new characters with familiar themes, in an entirely original Minecraft experience, inspired by the Minecraft community and the game that continues to inspire a generation.

Telltale has two episodic games, also based on established media franchises, that have recently launched their first episodes: Game of Thrones and Tales from the Borderlands. Mojang's own announcement about the game confirms it will be released for Android devices, among other platforms.

  • TellTale games is on a roll
  • If I'm correct Minecraft wasn't Minecraft sold to Microsoft, aren't they going to have a problem with mojang using Minecraft name in a game. My youngest daughter loves Minecraft.
  • Microsoft didn't just buy "Minecraft", they bought the whole Mojang company.
