BlackBerry Priv also coming to Wind Mobile in Canada

Canada's Wind Mobile has announced that it will be offering the BlackBerry Priv. The carrier has not announced pricing for the phone or release date, with the Wind Mobile store listing saying only that it is "coming soon". With the phone shipping on November 6, it's likely that Wind will see it arrive on the network on or close to that date.

The Priv is BlackBerry's first Android-powered handset. It features a slide-out hardware keyboard, a 5.4-inch display, and 32GB of storage, expandable with a microSD card. It's powered by a Snapdragon 808 processor, 3GB of RAM, and an 18MP camera.

Pre-orders for the Priv recently went live in the US, UK, and Canada, with the Canadian model coming in at CA$899, and both Rogers and Telus have also announced plans to carry the phone.

  • Well you can't not sell a blackberry phone in Canada. Posted from my Nexus 6/Nexus 7 2013/Surface Pro 3
  • I don't know, they got rid of Harper so the old garbage is on the way out. +++ Insert witty signature, watch as others not get it, profit +++
  • Unless you live in Canada you don't know that Harper is/was garbage. With the new guy, we'll be able to smoke pot... Posted via the Android Central App
  • I don't think you need Canadian citizenship to know that Harper is a sack of shit.
  • There is this little thing called the Internet, maybe you have heard of it? Well nevermind, one of the thing that the Internet does is convey news... +++ Insert witty signature, watch as others not get it, profit +++
  • I don't side with conservatives nor any party in Canada really. But honestly the liberals and the ndp are no better. Posted via Android Central App
  • Yeah, but we can not buy Blackberries in Canada! Maybe I was just being optimistic, and I get that it's a "premium" phone but BB does not have the brand value any more that Apple and Samsung now have. And quite honestly, with Android, you're up against mid-range phones that have near-premium features for 2/3 to 1/2 the price. I'm sure some companies will buy it and some die-hard fans too. But Chen really shot himself in both feet when he said this was their last year trying to do hardware: why would I buy hardware from a company that's threatening us with "if you don't buy enough hardware from us we're closing shop!"

  • They're making better money doing software so overhead cost is reduced. Makes sense. Posted via the Android Central App
  • They were supposed to do it a few years ago but screwed up and outsourced the hardware but kept the costs of it.. +++ Insert witty signature, watch as others not get it, profit +++

  • The unsung hero of the 80's was Paul Volker. The Fed Chairman who hiked interest rates like crazy to quell inflation and allow the debt based economy to reset and savers be rewarded and unprecedented growth to take place. That man had some balls. Janet Yellon obviously doesn't have balls but neither does Greenspan or Bernanky hence how the financial crisis happened and has been exacerbated. • Of course Canada will sell the phone, but you go on the Rogers and Telus website or walk in to the store... Bam! Apple and Samsung front row centre. Usually that's enough for a salesperson to woo a customer looking for something new without even trying. The Priv won't sell that many, though it does seem like a decent phone. Nexus 6
  • Same with the US carriers. I'm guessing Apple and Samsung flung a few more dollars at the carriers to get their advertising front and center to attract more customers. It's pretty lame when the product should be good enough to speak for itself. Posted via the Android Central App
  • If it was that good, it would. No one is spending extra money to combat the massive 12 units of sales this will do with consumers. HTC barely wants the market share that blackberry is down to +++ Insert witty signature, watch as others not get it, profit +++
  • You might be right. I was hoping for a return of BlackBerry with this device. Sadly I don't think they have the money for advertising as Samsung and Apple has. Seems like a great device though. I personally miss physical keyboards. And it's nice having the choice of which one to use. Virtual vs Physical. Probably not enough to get this in people's hands though. • In Canada, a 900 dollar phone will go for about 3 to 4 hundred dollars to lock in a 2 year contract. The Note 5/Edge 6+ and the IPhone 6S/6S+ are the only other phones in the same price bracket.
The damage has already been done and the Priv isn't even available yet. It's unfortunate. I want the smaller companies to prosper. Nexus 6
  • This might be a time where I'll have to wait until Black Friday or the beginning of the New Year to get the Priv at a lower price. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Blackberry just needs to go the software as a service route and license the patents out to others. They have made too many missteps to come back at this point. It is a shame though. I loved my ancient bb but they were not quick enough as a company to take advantage of the smartphone boom +++ Insert witty signature, watch as others not get it, profit +++
  • 900 Canadian???......that's a no go bro......way too much Posted via the Android Central App
  • Don't forget the 13% sales tax to bring it over $1,000. An iPhone 6+ 128GB is $1,500 taxes in. Insane. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Will toilet paper be included with such an outrageously high price. Might spare some for Venezuela Posted via the Android Central App From my Blackberry Priv where I am out of toilet paper
  • Stop fretting about the price. As with most android phones the price will come down in a few months. Being where Blackberry is right now it will be weeks... Posted via the Android Central App
  • Or they could do a fire sale, like Amazon. Posted via the Android Central App
