This is BlackBerry Motion, the next TCL-built BlackBerry

According to known leaker Evan Blass, better known as @evleaks, the device formerly known as Krypton will be released as BlackBerry Motion.

The phone has been making its way through certifications and is largely expected to be announced at some point this month based on comments from François Mahieu, head of global sales for TCL. When it comes to specs, here's what is currently rumored:

  • Snapdragon 625 (or newer 626) processor
  • Full HD 1920X1080 display
  • 4GB of RAM
  • 4000mAh Battery
  • Home button with built-in fingerprint scanner
  • IP67 water and dust-resistant

Needless to say, we'll have to wait and see how accurate the spec rumors pan out but feel free to let us know in the comments what you think about how it's shaping up and what you think of the BlackBerry Motion name, everyone always has strong opinions about the names the devices end up with, so let's hear it.

  • Finally a blackberry android I don't mind having.
Would be great if they released a dual sim version.
  • Not a fan of going backwards to a home button but making the Logo as the home button/fingerprint scanner. I like that. No one is turning their logo into a scanner yet.
  • agreed! iMO this phone looks very elegant and professional, and the logo for a home button makes it appealing
  • If funny when BB10 was launched, people didn't like the fact there was no home button, and how it was gesture based. Now that Apple is doing it, and Android OEMs naturally follow them, it has become a terrible idea to have a button.
  • What are you smoking? The iPhone X is not even here yet, Android OEMs got rid of the home button years ago and BB10 was praised for the gesture navigation.
  • It was definitely not praised
  • Never owned a bb because of the small keys but this is looking nice indeed especially spec wise. But lose the home button!
  • Haven't had a Blackberry since the Z10, which was awesome! Really looking forward to how this one turns out. Very interested in it.
  • That Z10 was the best feeling phone in the hand. Just felt perfect.
  • I loved my Z10 other than the lack of mainstream apps. I love BB10.
  • Agreed
  • Never been a Blackberry fan but of all the releases lately, this is by far the nicest
  • Looks like they traded the keyboard for water resistance and improved on everything that made the keyone great (especially the battery). This phone is going to last for days
  • Im not one to *itch and moan about processing power but I hope the price is reflective of that.
  • That's a great looking phone. The processor is solidly midrange so maybe the price will be low enough to buy without taking out a loan. Nah with the high end scaring the hell out of a thousand dollars this beauty will prob still be $500.
  • Tried the Keyone but didnt like the smaller screen size. Going to buy this phone asap! Dont mind the less than top of the line specs in return for what will be incredible battery life!!!
  • This. I may have found my upgrade here. Was hoping for a Priv 2 but this might do nicely.
  • It's great that TCL is sticking with the energy-efficient 6xx series of SoCs, but I really hope they move on from the 625. There's no reason for them not to be on the 626 or 653 at this point. I love the aesthetics of the asymmetrical curves at the top and bottom. I'm not in the "all bezels are bad" faction, but the bottom bezel does seem unnecessarily tall.
  • The 626 is a 625 with a 10% higher clock speed, so no real life improvement. The 653 is another 2016 processor that was just a small bump up from the 652 and it is built on the 28nm process. What it needs to come with is the 630 which is a modern version of the 625. Or, possibly the 660 which is equivalent to last years 820. But for me the 630 should be the choice as that will be another battery beast.
  • Ah thanks, I meant the 630 and 660 since they were announced in the spring, but used the wrong numbers.
  • Will it have better antenna than the KeyOne. Living in a poor signal area made it a non starter for me.
Mind you, if truth be told, I think I'm secretly waiting for a Passport type power house with the big specs to make me jump from the Majestic Z30.
  • Hopefully, because thats why I sent my Key One back. Reception was pitiful.
  • Exactly. I loved everything about the Keyone, particularly the build quality, battery life and sweet keyboard. But I had to send it back because reception was atrocious. I live in L. A. and am on Verizon. I haven't had reception problems in years. How could they release a phone with such awful reception?
  • Seriously though, if they made an Android Passport with a 3:2 screen, it might just work
  • AND a four-row keyboard.
  • I would love a next generation Passport with Top of the line specs. It was hands down my favourite phone from Blackberry, and any other brand really. If it had better mainstream apps it would have been THE perfect phone. I miss my Passport!!
  • Bezels!!!!!!...i see bezels
  • I'm surprised I had to scroll down this far to see the bezels comments. LOL.
  • Sorry, I like most of this but I will never deal with a built in hardware Nav Bar set up again. Hope this is not how this is to function but by the picture it looks it.
  • Love the looks and the name . . Headphone jack . . Courage! ;-)
  • Doesn't look half bad. Think they could have shrunk those bezels and stuck the FP sensor on the back.
  • This looks so awesome! I want it!
  • Gave up on BB after the Storm 2. The phone was great but they would not evolve. The haptic feedback and the whole screen as a button was cool. They would not create a decent browser and would not create a followup. BB died because they would not listen to users that wanted touch screens and ignored the market.
  • Cool story bro.
  • What year is it?
  • Ok so you are judging BlackBerry now based on 2010/11.
  • Looks pretty amazing! That chin looks a bit too tall but it looks like a very slick design!
  • Kinda looks like a pixel
  • Finally, phone designs and specifications that make sense. A full HD screen (1440p is still overkill tbh), an energy-efficient processor, and a huge battery. I do hope BlackBerry improves their OS and optimization, the priv is pretty horrible soft-ware wise with crashes and lags, and I hear the keyone suffers similarly.
  • ^ The KeyOne is actually very stable and a great performer. The software issues of the Priv are all gone. I owned both at a point in time and they are worlds apart. The only downside is that the KeyOne is too much $$$ for the specs, but then again with the flagships now pushing $1,500 CAD perhaps $700-$800 CAD is not that bad.
  • Looks good. I could see myself owning this.
  • Ugly home button. Expect a $399 from BlackBerry with this chip set
  • Only its BlackBerry so add $100 to your best guess and this thing launches at $499.
  • Add 50 dollars for safe measure
  • Seeing how they've always seriously overpriced their phones, especially the last few mid range spec devices... I'm guessing $699
  • The Blackberry, "We Don't Exist Anymore" phone. Nice model. BB10 At least looked cool.
  • BB10 looked cool... in a casket. RIP.
  • It has the same wallpaper as the shield tv currently. 🤷🏻
  • Looks like a good upgrade for the DTEK50. I'm still loving the KEYone for now.
  • Can't wait for this! Huge battery! Love the logo button. (Shrink that chin, for God's sake!)
  • Blackberry/TCL has to be careful on pricing. Moto has the Z2play with a 626/3GB/3AHr at $400, and the G5 SPlus with 625/3GB/3Ahr at $230. The G5 S Plus is really a steal, IMO. I've got the ZPlay, and it's a wonderful phone (Ok, the camera is thoroughly meh). I'd get home with my GS7 at 15% at 6pm so "downgrading" to the ZPlay which has ~60% left at 11pm.
  • You're right the G5s plus is a steal
  • **** is hot, I wish it had higher specs
  • Chin is a little much, but love that battery!
  • Hmm... Currently on a Moto Z Play, but wouldn't mind moving to Blackberry. Wonder how good the camera is? Also, glad to see a front fp scanner and a headphone jack!
  • I like the design language of this slab... that battery life is going to be truly epic. I have awesome battery life on my BlackBerry KEYone and have been enjoying this device thoroughly... hope a KEYtwo is in the mix somewhere down the line. :)
  • That hope button looks pretty ratchet. Think they could've done a better job there. But if it's on Verizon...it's mine.
  • Dat bezel is huge.
  • That chin is MASSIVE!
  • But there's an audio jack, acceptable trade-off for me.
  • You make it sound like you can't have an audio jack and a reasonable bottom bezel size simultaneously.
  • Will it have enough glue to keep the screen attached to the rest of the phone?
  • Its IP67, so yes most likely and fully touchscreen. KEYone was not,
  • I hope the price is right this time around
  • Not liking the chin at all
  • How in the hell does the evleaks guy know about every unreleased device before anyone else??? Am I missing something here?
  • He makes good use of HP's invisibility cloak. 😀
  • Not bad. Will likely be a somewhat reasonable pricepoint with a killer battery and quick security updates. Happy with the keyone. Will see what they have in store next year for my upgrade path. BlackBerry mobile... shrink that chin!
  • Will it have wireless charging??????????????????????????????
  • Hopefully the camera is as good as the KeyOne's and 64gb of ROM! This will definitely be my next phone, was debating between this and the Moto X4 but disappointed the X4 will be released with only 3gb RAM 32gb ROM in North America! @BlackberryMobile please don't make the same mistake. BlackBerry AKA "Research in Motion" so I dig the name Bla1ze 👌
  • I wish that bottom bezel contained a front facing speaker
  • I'll take a bezel for an audio jack for sure.
  • Nothing new here. I had the dtek 60 after my BB leap. That was a tlc phone and nobody said a damn thing about it. Move on. Another
Home bogged down by BB inbuilt apps.
  • that's the only phone to replace my Z Play :) Battery life and security updates would be on top of the list.
  • I like the look of this a lot more than the Priv.
  • Blackberry. Keeping the bezels alive
  • Just like the Pixel 2 and the iPhone 8...
  • Looks snazzy. Will be happy when I can see in person.
  • Man, I want to see the full details, and this maybe the device I really want :)
