Amazon Echo picks up new Garageio skill and a dash of political humor

Amazon is pushing through with more updates to improve the capabilities its speaker with smarts, the Echo. In its latest round of additions, Amazon has given the Echo's digital assistant, Alexa, a new skill, along with some new topical jokes about the presidential race.

First off, and probably the biggest addition in today's update, is Alexa's new Garageio skill. If you happen to own a Garageio Smart Garage Controller, Amazon says that you can use Alexa's newfound skill to ask whether you've left the garage door open. If you have, you can then simply ask Alexa to close it.

Alexa is also getting in on the presidential race action — just in case you haven't had enough already — with jokes about the candidates. If you ask Alexa to tell you a Donald Trump joke, for example, you're likely to hear her crack off some sort of hair pun. Finally, Amazon says you can now ask Alexa to play music from hundreds of additional artists on Prime Music, like The Weeknd, Drake, and Lady Gaga.
