Six-second video app hits Google Play with new zoom feature

Twitter-owned video-sharing app Vine is launching on Android today, seven months after the initial iOS-only release. The app allows you to create and share six-second square-shaped videos and follow fellow Viners through your own tailored feed. Essentially, it's Instagram for video.

In addition to all the editing and social networking features of Vine for iOS, the Android version of the app is getting something unique -- zooming support. The Vine team also promises further updates in the weeks ahead, including front-facing camera support, search, mentions, hashtags and Facebook sharing.

After a brief delay, the app is now live on Google Play at the link above. You'll need a device running at least Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Anyone been eagerly awaiting the arrival of Vine on Android? How are you getting on with the Android version of the app? Shout out in the comments.

Odd...It wont install on any of my devices.

EDIT: Doh..."Not live on Google Play yet." Helps if I read.

It doesnt work now, I can see only "Oops, we could not determine if this item is compatible with your device. Please try again later." I have Nexus 4 with android 4.2.2.

Yep, I am getting the same message, but with the HTC One, I was hoping it wasn't in retaliation for Zoe, lol, but I guess it's not quite ready yet.

I do. It will piss iOS users off. I remember when Instagram came to Android. The iphone elitist were livid! lol

I felt the same way when Goggle created Maps, G+ and the other host of Android apps for the dino of a phone.

Piece of junk app, the save button on the profile settings doesn't work. Try making changes and attempt to save them.

Did they put this through quality testing at all before launch? That's a pretty big bug to miss.

Edit: Feedback menu item doesn't work either.

I tried to "Find my Friends" in the app and it crashed 5 times in a row. I uninstalled it and will never try again.

Alex THAT is the best Vine announcement...video? gif? whatever, on any tech blog so far. Hats off to you, sir!

Figures, I just installed this on my iPad (work owned, I wouldnt buy one) on Saturday. Glad i can get it on my Android today! Now to put the iPad away for another couple months. :)

Does not work on Samsung Captivate Glide (Android 4.0.4). It displays a black screen for a few seconds then unloads without any error messages. It does work however on a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 (Android 4.1.1).

It seems to be pretty buggy. Took several attempts to connect to Twitter to log in and videos not loading too well. People appearing in my feed who I'm not subscribed too. Glad it's here but some improvements badly needed.

New update posted, Save button in settings/profile now works not sure what else is fixed, I need to have a bit of a play with it to see what I can do with it.

Please don't post those stupid animated video loop things on your site. If I want to see a video, I will click on it. And if I click on it, I just want to see it ONCE. ANNOYING!!

Love ppl complaining about a FREE app and threatening to uninstall it. Lol that's hilarious. Like they aren't gonna update it constantly. Just relax. Jesus.

You have to laugh at the comments.... First a load of people saying how iOS users will be angry for Vine coming to Android with exclusive features...

Then people commenting that the app is a broken mess full of bugs and was not tested.

Confirmed on other sites too... Vine on Android is junk and an embarrassment.

Now I'm a Samsung Galaxy Nexus user but even I have to admit that the situation above is sadly common. Apple users often have a much better app experience in my opinion.

So whilst the app volume has caught up with iOS somewhat, again this proves the quality isn't there.

And people wonder why some of us get fed up with android and look elsewhere.

Ughhhh this app is not even comparable to the iOS version. Im ready to leave android for iOS. Everything on iOS just works not a choppy might not work for your phone mess that is android.
