Orion R28

Tronsmart has announced the Orion R28, a sweet new media hub running Android 4.4 KitKat and powered by a Cortex-A17 processor. As the product name suggests, the R28 is based on and around the Rockchip RK3288, a quad-core processor, accompanied by the ARM Mali-T764 GPU. This combination enables the device to handle 4K H.264 and 10bit H.265 video for some stunning images on today's TV sets. Overall, it's a handy little product for enthusiasts.

Available in three variants - Pro, Meta and Telos - up to 4GB of RAM is available alongside 32GB of internal storage and 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi. Developers can pick up the Orion R28 Pro entry model for $79.99, which isn't a hefty investment after looking at what's included. To act as an incentive, a free 8GB SD card with source code and SDK will be bundled with the first batch of units. GeekBuying is also offering a full refund for the first developer who creates a custom ROM.

Connectivity wise, excluding the on-board Wi-Fi, the Orion R28 has three USB 2.0 ports, a single micro USB with OTG, standard HDMI, RJ-45 and microSD. Are you interested in picking one up for yourself?
