G Nex

Another new month, another new OTA package for the Verizon Galaxy Nexus. For those that just want to get it on, here's the link direct from Google. Note that it's not a full ROM, and you'll need to be stock to flash it. Now where were we ...

This may play out like the last OTA update that mysteriously appeared, then just as quickly disappeared from Google's servers, but we're hearing that the OTA is pushing, so you might want to check your phone and see if it finds an update itself. Hopefully, this is the real deal and we can go from worrying about when the update will come and get back to complaining about the update like we're supposed to do. I kid, I kid.

For instruction on what to do if you're rooted and ROM'd, be sure to hit the Verizon G Nex forums and read a bit -- everything you want or need can be found there. Our fingers are crossed this time!

Thanks, JD!

Is this the same version that leaked a couple weeks back that all of us geeks already are using? The 4.0.4 IMM76K?

dmmarck says:

From the looks of it (eyeball test of the file name), yes. Same size too.

moosc says:

To bad it sucks

GilesCorey says:

Never heard of "bad it sucks." When are you leaving?

Murph5150 says:

No OTA here...

MowDownJoe says:

UPDATE NOW STILL ISN'T DOING ANYTHING!

greyhd says:

No not again. Just another disappointment from big red.

JDWallace says:

Anyone try using the ZIP from Google's site?

Will this update the radio? Or just the OS? Since cdma is licensed and all.....

greyhd says:

It will update the radios and bug fixes with the OS.

dj hidroid says:

Maybe it's being rolled out to the masses tomorrow. I've heard that Verizon usually releases otas on Thursdays. I'm hoping and praying on this one. I download the zip file but I'm not going to flash it if it's being rolled out this week. Verizon needs to release some kind of statement.

moosc says:

Fyi radios still suck. I rolled back to 4.0.3 radios they are the best for me.

stbxxl says:

That's the exact same update ZIP file that "leaked" on May 1st. I compared MD5 hashes of both. If this is indeed the case then this is good news as I'm running IMM76K since May 1st!!

crazed_z06 says:

Yes, this is the same update from May 1st.

I updated by stock 4.0.2 GNex three weeks ago using these instructions:
http://rants.strifejester.com/2012/05/01/imm76k-direct-for-verizon-galax...
No unlocking or permanent rooting needed.

I found this update to be great. Improved my reception/signal greatly. It doesnt just show more bars. Data connections are MUCH more consistent after this update in my experience.

strifejester says:

Glad it worked for you I have modified the original article so that the link to Google's servers works again. Also this is the same file as earlier this month. My data has also gotten better but in all honesty it is nowhere near as good as my wife's RAZR. I am seriously considering getting my warranty replacements as fast as possible and making them give me a sideways upgrade to the RAZR. There are many spots where my wife's phone has full service and data and my phone will search for signal. Identical PRLs and all. After a few stories today about the file being available again the site rocketed the hits up. Glad to see a lot of people held onto the instructions and are re-posting them.

XavierMatt says:

Nothing, why even bother if they are not going to push out a relevant update that ummmm actually fixes the issues with ICS, like the stock keyboard in landscape.

No OTA for me yet ... Sure hope that if this pushes the radio gets better since it sucks now.

Cry, cry, cry... Who cares anyway? My GNex works JUST FINE!!! EXACTLY LIKE ITS SUPPOSED TO. Everyone on here just has to have something to bitch about all the time. When is enough, enough???

NickA says:

Dude, read the comments above you. You're one of the few that have a working Nexus. Have you been living under a rock? Have you not heard of all the issues the phone has? I'm skeptical when someone says their VZW Nexus is "just fine".

byrds8 says:

Mine works decently enough. I hardly ever get a reboot, I have no signal issues as I get about the same as my TB did when I used it. So skeptical or not my does work just fine. Not saying others dont have issues. I firmly believe a lot have. Just saying my device isnt going though the same pain.

dtreo says:

Agree. Seriously wonder how it's not obvious that a lot (not all) of people are having issues with the radios. smh

startedfire says:

Mine does not. I get a handful of random restarts every day for no reason. My data connection goes in and out, to say nothing of the Verizon-approved tethering. I could go on, but the fact of the matter is that many issues remain that fixes have long been available for, and I'm not the only one having problems. We want the update we already should have had.

codiusprime says:

Good for you. I'm on my fourth Galaxy Nexus though so why don't you just shut the hell up and enjoy your working phone.

Nev says:

lol...

craigrn16 says:

Mine works fine but it would be nice to have better battery life. Why is Verizon lagging. I tried flashing the update myself but am not having luck. Just roll the update. I wish I could just go to google click update and wha la. Instead of waiting on Big Red

Mr. Fisk says:

NO UPDATE HERE :-(

My Gnex 4g radios still crashes with this update. I get random disconnects when the phone is a sleep or when im using it. i called amazon and am getting my third replacement. i suggest everyone with similar problems do the same, replace it because no amount of software is going to fix a hardware defect. (fyi I hate this Chinese phone)

Zookeeper says:

You mean South Korean phone.

uh no the phone is made in china. the fact that it is a Korean company is irrelevant. (the nexus was made in both countries btw if you didnt know)

YzBrad99 says:

FC04/FC05 Radios still???

dwarhaftig1 says:

Downloaded the file. Can't get it to open on the phone.

rufflez says:

You don't open it, You flash it. Place it on the root of your "virtual" sd card and then use a recovery to flash it. You must be running stock 4.0.2 with an unlocked bootloader for this to work... as well as a computer with fastboot and adb packages.

co1458 says:

and this is supposed to be simple ha

New radios sucked for me also 4.0.3 some what ok.. But I agree with everyone else my phone works fine other then radio.. But my thunderbolt got 4g everywhere and anywhere.. Lmfao my nexus praying to the radio Gods is a daily thing with this phone and I live in a strong LTE area.. So it's not the firmware it's hardware 1000% if I never had a problem with my HTC TB, period! End of story! But I still love this phone since I use wifi all day but pay for LTE I hardly get in a LTE

rufflez says:

I've had both (thunderbolt sits on my desk as a clock/development project). I notice no difference between the phones signals since the 4.0.2 update. I had data drop outs occassionally (not all the time) on 4.0.1, but since the 4.0.2 update everything has been solid. I now run a hybrid between the newest 4.0.4 ROM and the last 4.0.4 radios. Data signal and connection between the two are equal, but bluetooth connection in the car is better with the older radios for me. Not everyone is having issues and may be LOCATION related.

Angelworks says:

There are about 92 people in my department - about 12 have a Galaxy Nexus and a quick survey (asked on internal IRC) no-one has any problems with their Galaxy Nexus and most are on Verizon (I didn't check actually, but all these phones were purchased on launch and it launched on Verizon).

I think people who have problems with the device just happen to be extremely vocal about it.

abdon_junbug says:

Can somebody please explain to me why I can't I just download the update, put it on my "SD" card, and install it from stock recovery? Is that possible without unlocking or rooting?
Forgive me. I'm new to the GNex.
