HTC Desire Brings Sense to a Nexus One Body

Phil Nickinson News Tuesday, 16 February 2010

The HTC Desire received its official blessing today, addressing two things that had been gnawing at us regarding the current king of the hill, the Nexus One: What would it have been like if it had HTC's Sense UI? And is there a more elegant solution than a trackball?

The Desire answers both of those things -- and then some -- with the introduction of an all-new version of Sense running atop Android 2.1.

AC @ MWC: Video of the Motorola Motoroi (XT720), Koreas first Android 2.0

Phil Nickinson News Monday, 15 February 2010

The Motorola Motoroi's been intriguing ever since it first leaked out of the depths of wherever such leaks come from. But in getting your hands (and watching the hands of a lovely Motorola representative) on the device, you really get a sense that despite a few obvious cues taken from the Motorola Droid, the Motoroi really isn't a keyboardless Droid.

For one, it lacks the hard lines of the Droid. You're not going to be...

At first blush you get the feel that it's a kindler, gentler Droid without a keyboard. But get the XT720 in your hand and you find that they don't have the same feeling in the slightest. No...

Casey Chan News Thursday, 21 January 2010

While more Android devices come out rocking Android 2.0 on launch and other Android phones announcing their intention to do so in the future, any news regarding the very first Android phone, the T-Mobile G1, has been nonexistent. We figured that was an omen for bad news because why not announce that 2.0 is coming if it can eventually come, right? Plus, with

Samsung Galaxy Spica To Get Android 2.0 In February ?

Casey Chan News Friday, 15 January 2010

We apologize for the egregious spelling errors in the tweet above. But Samsung Firmware is hearing that the Samsung Galaxy Spica and likely the Samsung Galaxy will both receive the Android 2.0 update in February. In part because of the poor spelling but largely because of the unsourced report, we're uncertain if this will actually happen. But Samsung Firmware seems to be on top...

Android 2.0 Source Code Released, Ported to T-Mobile G1

Casey Chan News Saturday, 14 November 2009

Though the Android 2.0 'Eclair' SDK has been available for quite some time and the Motorola DROID runs Android 2.0 perfectly, the Android 2.0 source code has been kept under wraps for some particular reason (underhand deal with Motorola & Verizon?). This meant that all phone manufacturers outside of Motorola could only tinker with Android 1.6. Luckily, that has all changed.

Google has released the...

Gigantic Eclair Dropped Off at Google Campus

Casey Chan News Thursday, 15 October 2009

You have to love Google. Not only do they name their Android builds after desserts, they actually bring in gigantic-sized models of said desserts and place them on their campus. If you remember, Android 2.0 is going to be called 'Eclair' and since it's now been placed on the Google Campus, we can likely expect it sooner than we thought.

Will the T-Mobile G1 Continue to Receive Android Updates ?

Casey Chan News Tuesday, 18 August 2009

If reports indicating that the T-Mobile G1 is permanently stuck at Android 1.5 and won't receive further software updates like Donut and Eclair are true, it'll break the hearts of many Android users across the world. According to Android software engineer Dave Sparks, there'll be a time when developers "wont be able to fit the latest [Android] release on the G1's internal flash."

You've got to be kidding me. The T-Mobile G1 isn'...

One feature that has been conspicuously missing in Android since its launch has been a biggie--multi-touch. Multi-touch is the wonderful input method that reads multiple touch inputs at once. It gives for a more 'natural' control of input, instead of zooming in/out by tapping plus/minus signs, you can simply pinch or pull the screen. We...

You've probably heard of Android 2.0 Donut. But did you know that future versions of Android will be named Eclair and Flan? It looks like Google is pretty serious in codenaming Android alphabetically after dessert type snacks. Originally, we thought following Android 1.5 Cupcake with Android 2.0 Donut was hilarious and clever, but seriously, Flan!?

As interesting as...
