ShopAndroid Loves Bitcoin

We've had a lot of demand from users to begin accepting Bitcoin at ShopAndroid, and today I'm happy to announce that support is here! Just in time for the holidays, Bitcoin users can now checkout with the digital currency at ShopAndroid and our other Mobile Nations stores including ShopCrackBerry, the iMore Store and Windows Phone Central Store.

To kick off the Bitcoin support, we've even extended our Black Friday/Cyber Monday sale to run a full week. That means until this Friday, December 6th at midnight PST tonight, you can save 25% on ALL orders using coupon code CYBER13.

Take me to ShopAndroid!

Using Bitcoin Checkout at ShopAndroid

Woah. What's all this Bitcoin stuff about?

Bitcoin is making lots of headlines these days, and it can be a confusing concept to grasp at first until you read up on it and it "clicks". Long story short, Bitcoin is a peer-to-peer online financial network and a digital currency (that also goes by the name Bitcoin). There's no middle man with Bitcoin. Instead, Bitcoin payments are sent over the network directly from sender to receiver and the management of the transactions is carried out by the collectively by the network. The infographic below provides a good walk through (more info on Wikipedia and Bitcoin.org).

Why support Bitcoin?

That's an easy one. We love technology, we love our users and we love choice. Nobody quite knows where Bitcoin will go, but it has a real community movement behind it and we have customers asking for it, so we're happy to support it and be part of the story as it continues to evolve!

Isn't a single bitcoin like $1000? Can you transfer smaller amounts than a single bitcoin?

Posted via Android Central App

I guess that was a stupid question with the goal of someone explaining how it works without me having to Google it.

A bitcoin is divisable into 100million nanoBitcoins
Think pennies & the dollar

$1055. And yes, you can buy smaller amounts other than a whole bitcoin. Such as buying .1 bc is $105.00. Thats how I started doing it. And the value of one bitcoin fluctuates depending on how many are in circulation I believe.

The amount of Bitcoin is actually very steady. The amount being traded is what fluctuates and swings the price.

The FTC and other regulators are trying to see if it is even legal or whether it should be blocked from use in the US. Why pay 1055 for a coin and if you don't use it the value drops when their are more in circulation creating a loss for all those who are trying to promote the use of them.

the US dollar cannot fail, because the world requires a currency that will never fail.
Confidence in the USD is what makes it impossible to fail.

when you owe a bank 10'000USD, you have a problem.
when you owe a bank 10'000'000'000USD, the bank has a problem.

On the other hand, other currencies like the GBP or the EUR can fail if defiance is too strong.

Now, back to bitcoin, where's the confidence so far?

This type of thinking is unbelievably, but sadly this is how the average person thinks about currency. It's amazing.

The Fed backs the currency & is currently buying 85 billion dollars a month of bonds aka printing billions & giving it to backs for u.s. debt bonds

Have you seen the quantitative easing they are doing, fiat paper money always fails & the FED is single handily destroying the value of the dollar

Im an economics student we have studied it indepth & there is a reason me & many other students have been buying Bitcoins since they were about $50 each

Ends Friday at midnight, not tonight, right?

Pretty sure that the banks do not back the currency in the US. You might want to renew your GED in econ

So where is the competition for the Note 3? Oh right there isn't any...

I seem to remember a race of people that valued trinkets and beads as an alternative to various currencies.

How did that end up?

----------------------------------------------------
So where is the competition for the Note 3? Oh right there isn't any...

They were raped and pillaged by another race of people, then that other race of people stole their land, made everything they cherished invaluable, killed tons of them, then staked their claim where the race in question used to live.

So yeah it didn't end well huh?

----------------------------------------------------
So where is the competition for the Note 3? Oh right there isn't any...

Something no-one really wants to see, though, is that the white man didn't do anything to the native Americans that they weren't already doing to each other. One group was just a lot better at it than the other.
(Note I've not assigned any moral value one way or the other to the actions listed. I've merely pointed out that all humans are capable of this and given fallacy to the notion that one group was more innocent than the other.)

Can I also use old Worldcom stock certificates to pay you? About 3 years from now they will be par value with bitcoin.

Seriously. All of you bitcoin people will look back and laugh (or cry) about this in 20 years.

It is also possible that all "non-Bitcoin people" will be crying, like damn... I remember when I could have bought a single coin for only $1000, now they're worth a lot more.

The only reason I defend the community from time to time, is because I remember the hype about a single Bitcoin ever hitting $1 USD, as if it were an impossible dream. Unfortunately, I sold a lot of my Bitcoins around that time, and a lot of my fellow miners have made $10,000,000.00+ from holding on to them. Still made quite a bit of money from these crypto-currencies (not just Bitcoin, currently making a substantial amount of money mining Litecoins).
