Project Ara, Google's long-in-development effort to make a smartphone with swappable modular hardware parts, has officially delayed its launch. After confirming last week that its plans for a 2015 pilot market launch in Puerto Rico have been scrapped, the company has now stated that Project Ara won't launch until sometime in 2016.
The new update was revealed in a series of posts on the Project Ara Twitter account:
Why? Lots of iterations... more than we thought. #ProjectAra— Project Ara (@ProjectAra) August 17, 2015
The posts would seem to indicate that Project Ara's journey to make a modular smartphone has been tougher than the team first thought, much like the company's Google Glass eyewear efforts.
