The Jelly Bean (Android 4.1.1) update for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 that started back in early December is still rolling out across the globe, and users of the 7-inch model in the Americas are now reporting an OTA as well.

Early in the fall of 2012 we saw an update roadmap from Samsung that included the Tab 2, so we shouldn't be surprised that it's here. We have no idea of the mechanics behind Samsung's update schedule, but  we hope that the rest of the world will see the Jelly Bean update in short order. To check for your own update, look in the settings under "About tablet" or use Samsung Kies' update tool. As 4.1.1 brings much smoother performance and great new features like Google Now, this is one update you won't want to skip.

It only took 7 months. Now my mum can get Project Butter on her tablet.

In other news, CM10.1 nightlies are great on my P311x!

The average a carrier or manufacture is 6-8 months so this is on par

Love my job, since I've been bringing in $5600… I sit at home, music playing while I work in front of my new iMac that I got now that I'm making it online(Click on menu Home)

Is the original Galaxy Tab 10.1 expected to get JB OTA?

Edwill86 says:

I got excited because the twitter post said galaxy tab 10.1 not tab 2 10.1 . I don't think the og 10.1 will see jb though.

jboogie1289 says:

Same thing I said and then as I read further in to the body of the post, then it says Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and I'm like WTH! That was a nasty misprint!!!

MERCDROID says:

The original Galaxy Tab 10.1 reached its end of life quite awhile ago. However, there may be some jb roms out there that hook it up.

ZaintZinner says:

Original Galaxy Tab 10.1 is very capable of running JB it's just corporate greed which stop Samsung from rolling out update.

GreyCelt says:

We bought a Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 the other day for my wife and I fully expected it to be running ICS out of the box. To my surprise, I looked in "About device" and it's running 4.1.1! Nice!

Timzwombat says:

No one has said anything about the ones on Verizon's network! When will I be seeing a OTA update for my Tab 2 7.0?

MERCDROID says:

It'll be quite awhile, if ever. Verizon will drag there feet - which is on par for the course - I'm afraid.

Timzwombat says:

That is very discouraging! I have to pay monthly for it I would hope the would find a way to get an update out for something everyone else has. But at any rate I just I am going to have to get in touch with Verizon and find this out!

MERCDROID says:

That is Verizon for you. Wifi-only versions will always get updates before their carrier-branded siblings. I almost guarantee, if you call Verizon, you will reach a rep that plays dumb - is nice and will try to "help" you - but plays dumb nonetheless.

But, other than Project Butter, you're not missing out on anything. Trust me, Jellybean functions alot like ICS. It's not worth blowing a head gasket over lol.

Just updated my(technically my daughters's) Tab 2 7.0. Very disappointed to see the giant phone UI.

John Sharp2 says:

Man, I thought my update had made an error and installed a "phone" version of the update. I'm disappointed also.

Mr C S says:

I am hoping they update this soon. I lost a lot of functionality with this Phone UI setup. When running full-screen programs I no longer have a battery indicator so there is no way for me to know how low it is until it disconnects suddenly. There's no user-defined key any longer on the bottom bar (I know many used that for screenshots). Trying to juggle the tablet to press and hold the volume and power makes me worry I am going to drop the tablet.

Android. Please fix this. Give TAB 2 7" users a Tablet UI.

Got my 7.0 for christmas (was late also due to back order) ive had it for alittle over a week now. Ive been reading that the other countries other than the US had alread ygotten jellybean and that the new "layout" was stupid. I checked for a update after school (Friend told me about it) and downloaded it without 35 min and tat was with a full connection. I LOVE the new Touchwiz UI even though it has some buttons like the NExus 7.. I like having a notification bar at the top because im still used to pulling down a notification bar on my phone and clickign it on my phone at the bottom. lol. People have been complaining about the "Screenshot" button which is really a shortcut button was gone.. Yes, its gone. You nwo have to use manual which is Lock buttno and volume down.

Got the update yesterday OTA for my son's galaxy 7 wifi only.

CeluGeek says:

It's interesting that the 10.1 tablet retained the good tablet UI, while the 7.0 model was downgraded to the unergonomic oversized phone UI.

DJxDARIENx says:

I think Samsung did it because it'd be easier. The Note 2 is nearly the same size as the tab 2 7.0, plus if you are on a carrier (it'll eventually get the update) they have the phone feature.
