It's been a long journey to bring Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich onto the LG Optimus 2X. First the update was rumored to have been canceled, then un-canceled, then delayed, then released, but just in Korea, followed by a source code drop a month or so ago.

But Optimus 2X owners can rejoice this morning, as it seems the ICS update for their phone is now going out to devices outside of Korea, indicating a widespread international launch for the upgrade. According to reports from XDA, the  Android 4.0.4-based v30a firmware is now available to download via LG's PC update utility.

The long-awaited ICS should bring a performance boost to the the world's first dual-core smartphone, which we first saw way back at CES 2011. The ICS upgrade will also allow Optimus 2X owners to run the latest Google apps, including the new versions of Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Chrome. It's also likely the update will include LG's latest Optimus UI 3.0, as previous LG ICS updates have, however we haven't been able to specifically confirm this.

Anyone still rocking an Optimus 2X? Let us know how you get on with the latest firmware update.

If they have it on the LG Optimus 2X P999, I'll be happy, at least my parents won't complain that their Android 2.2.2 firmware keeps crashing on them....

I've a P990 and I'm running cyanogenmod7 7.2. It is way better than the LG software.
Does anybody know how to flash this new version from LG without using the LG desktop software?

Quite the opposite actually. It's normal that the International version of our G2x would get the update before us. Now it's up to T-Mobile to push the ICS update to our phones via ota update. The fat lady hasn't sung just yet.

Some official statement from T-mobile about how long that will take would be nice though.

It`s more like public pressure and scrutiny made this happen. Hopefully the Optimus G will not suffer the same situation. An update to Jelly Bean should happen in the next few weeks for the Optimus G, not at the end of 2013!

Cynogenmods and other ROMs are nice, but many including my 2X never did ran reliably with network connections after installing them (all), even with the various basebands. A factory ROM almost always avoids these issues I found. Hence when I had my 2X it was brought back to running the factory ROM, v2.2.

I'm still on a g2x ( in this case the same as 2x) but damn i have to say im not even excited no more, im more excited about getting a nexus 4, im done with it!#@$#@%#$$^$

Still rocking a G2x and waiting for the Nexus 5 and/or Nexus 4x or whatever they will call the next Nexus.

I pledged after my G2x with its unmet upgrade timeline, glitchy software and return after return (a total of 5) I would never buy another LG product and pledged after falling in love with my Nexus 7 I would only buy Nexus devices... consequently here I sit, waiting to hand SkyNet... err... Google hundreds of dollars.

The entire G2x owner experience has been a frustrating shambolic mess.

Is it possible for someone to tell me how to go about performing this upgrade? I have an LG Optimus 2x here in Canada from Wind. The Damn thing won't boot anymore and upgrading seems to the next logical step. So, can someone tell me how to go about doing this?

Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately the Canadian version of this phone won't be getting the update. Theirs help in the forums if you want to root and install custom roms.

it really doesn't matter anymore, almost 2 yrs have passed, it is really way too late. My G2X's contract is almost over (1 more month) and I will never buy another LG phone! If the update does comes, I will get it update and give it to my 3 yrs old as a wifi only toy. I will try to stick with samsung or google phones from now on. bye bye LG...
