What you need to know

  • Samsung may launch a more affordable version of the Galaxy S20 in October this year
  • The phone is rumored to be called the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition/Pen Edition.
  • Its specs sheet remains a complete mystery at this point.

A report published earlier this month had claimed Samsung could soon launch a "Lite" version of the Galaxy S20, which is apparently being referred to as the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition within the company. A new report from ETNews now claims the phone could be launched in October this year. Weirdly, however, the report refers to the phone as the Galaxy S20 "Pen Edition," instead of Fan Edition.

Unlike the Galaxy S10 Lite, which doesn't support 5G, the upcoming Galaxy S20 Fan Edition is rumored to be available in both 4G and 5G-enabled variants. In the U.S., however, Samsung will apparently launch just the 5G-enabled variant of the phone.

While the specs of the "affordable" Galaxy S20 model remain a mystery at this point, a report from SamMobile claims the phone will be available in Prism Blue, Prism White, and Prism Violet color options. The phone is also expected to come with 128GB of storage and run Android 10-based One UI 2.5 out of the box. Since its predecessor runs on the same Snapdragon 855 chipset as the Galaxy S10, it is likely that the upcoming S20 Fan Edition will have a Snapdragon 865 chipset under the hood.
