Samsung launching gorgeous 'blue coral' Galaxy S7 edge in the U.S. for the holidays

If you lusted after the bright blue-and-pink "blue coral" Note 7 back when it was on sale, you're in luck: the color is being reintroduced on the Galaxy S7 edge (opens in new tab) in the U.S. later this year. Blue coral was originally a Note 7-exclusive color, but will now sit alongside black, gold and silver as color options for the GS7 edge a "major wireless providers" in the States.

For those who wanted to stand out a bit the blue coral Note 7 was certainly enticing, with its amazingly flashy blue body being accented by a light pink metal trim that looked like no other phone on the market. The Galaxy S7 edge stands to be just as stunning in the color, even set next to the gold and silver options.

Though people with a Galaxy S7 edge aren't going to be swapping out their current phone for the new color, at the very least the blue color option will help it stand out a bit on store shelves for holiday phone buyers. Together with pricing incentives in the final quarter of the year, Samsung is hoping that the Galaxy S7 edge (in all colors) will pick up some of the sales slack created by the Note 7's recall.

The new color will go on sale starting November 1, with specific availability by region announced when it becomes available in each area.

  • Why?????
  • Because: choice.
  • Why are you commenting?
  • Why not? It's a nice-looking color scheme.
  • Color does not change that I don't like this phone. Runs too hot. Dust gets under the poorly fit screen protector. Overly curved. The curve on the N7 wasn't hindering my use,
  • I have 3 S7 edges and not once think they have run hot. I have perfected putting the screen protectors on so never have dust problems either. They are the closest for me to replace my beloved N7. It's only for about 4 months till the S8 comes out anways.
  • This is my second S7 edge and neither one has run "hot". Also I've never used a screen protector because this screen is very hard to scratch and both have been scratch free.
  • Just don't use a screen protector
  • You must have a defective phone. I'd get it checked.
  • Interesting. I was very anti curved screen before actually using the Note 7 and now the S7E. The Note 7, in my opinion, executed the curves better but I am pleasantly surprised that the curves make swiping Google Play Music from the side easier and with more accuracy. But I can definitely see the curve not being for everyone. There is always the non edge version of course. Oh and yah, mine runs MUCH cooler than my G3 and G4 ever did under the same workload, even when in front of the vent on the car with the heat on (when I forget to shut the vent off that is).
  • A bad app could be causing your phone to run hot. One thing that really puzzles me is why Google lets anyone stick an app in their App Store with virtually little to no testing required. There are some bad programmers out there and nothing is protecting us from them. There are many bad programming practices that could cause a device to "run hot". For example, one should NEVER use a loop as a timer. It will "peg" the CPU and cause it to get hot.
  • Oh Yea I know what's gonna make everyone forget about the note let's throw something colorful out
  • Watch how it actually works -_-
  • People forgot instantly the iPhone 6 bendings so..... your argument is invalid
  • ???? Are you agreeing with OP and I while also saying our argument is invalid?? ಠ_ಠ
  • Have you met modern consumers? "Ooh Shiny" should be our mantra.
  • Better than if Samsung did nothing...
  • Or Samsung is proceeding with business as usual. They always release pretty new colors of Galaxy devices after they've been on the market for a while.
  • I like this as a choice!
  • Me too!
  • Not a bad idea by Samsung as it just gives another color option for those looking to purchase the S7 Edge this holiday season.
I was contemplating buying the Blue Coral Note 7 before the recall. Looks like I will just have to hang on to my Note 5 until the S8 is released.
  • I read they were going to release the note 8 as well.
  • They are going to release the Note 8 but if they don't release it until the end of next year I'm just going to get the S8. I personally upgrade my phone every year so that's just too long of a wait for me. I purchased my Note 5 in February.
  • Is this going to be the bomb like the last phone they "safely" made?
  • Well the Galaxy S7 edge was the last "safe" phone they made, so ...
  • "safely" was referring to the Note 7.
  • 50 or so million sold so your comment is just trolling. It's a casing color not a redesign or anything newer than a color variant. Sad.
  • This article is about the S7 Edge. I think your are confused. Over 13 million of these phones in the wild for over six months. Think if their was to be negative news about it, we'd have heard about it by now. Also 43%+ of former Note 7 users opted for this device. Changing the color likely has little impact on the majority of the existing manufacturing process which, based on the aforementioned data, has been tried and tested. Any other silly questions?
  • Huh ?? This is the edge 7 please do your homework . And the note 7 jokes are soooo old now, grow up ^^^
  • They were old from the jump.
  • Telling me to grow up with a childish response? Ha!
  • They can't find what's wrong because nothing was wrong. Why since they stop production have we not heard of anymore fires? With there being over one million phones still on the street shouldn't there be something smoke fire something. But nothing ever since production stop. Something like this makes me wonder and that's why I'm keeping mine. I don't do planes trains or buses.
  • Haha I hear you I regret turning mine in ever day hahaha . Now whereas that note 8 come on Samsung
  • I wanted the note 7 when it came out. Now since they took it away, I want it even more.
  • Sigh
  • I kind of agree with you. What's the coincidence thousands still have the phone and no more fire reports?
  • No I just seen the report from Samsung they say it's over one million still out there and they say they trying to get back but I don't think they are. I think they know they were sabotage and now everything is a act. I still have not gotten a fireproof box yet and if I did I would just throw it away anyway lol
  • Agree 100% with you. The Note 7 has been victim of sabotage. Samsung probably can't say that.
  • They got to try something for the holiday season after the Note 7 disaster.
  • I like this idea.
  • This color combo is, for me anyways, the one that I think of when I picture a Note 7. I'm not sure Samsung fully thought this through. I see buyers of this phone getting a lot of unwanted attention at airports. That being said, I think black with gold trim would look pretty sharp.
  • looks good, but the black one still looks better though, in my opinion. What puzzles me is the fact the s7 doesn't have an emerald color like the gs6 did, because emerald gs6 sold a LOT
  • Except not in the US, unfortunately. It's sad we never got those models
  • It looks nice but without updates to the specs it's still a 8 months old phone that will be obsolete in about 3-4 months.
  • Obsolete to tech nerds, yeah. Not so much to regular people. I usually keep my phones for a year, don't really care about what's obsolete.
  • A little older than the nerds want? Yeah. Obsolete? That's hilarious. Samsung is going to sell a TON of these in November/December.
  • Samsung has been keeping up big time with updates lately.
  • Yep I've gotten all my updates right on time every month on AT&T.
  • Yep. Even in Canada on Rogers I am on October patch. Typically we are two months back at least.
  • Yah that really negated any buyers remorse I had about getting this phone. I REALLY miss my Note 7 and given the choice, wish the whole recall thing never happened. BUT can't deny all the extra S7 love coming from Samsung as a result is pretty cool. I still use a 27 month old LG G3 along with this phone. All WiFi based usage on the G3 works just fine while this phone is charging. Sure it is notably slower but it gives me hope to the longevity of the S7 Edge.
  • Obsolete? Right.... Keep telling yourself that.
  • Beautiful color! Although I think It'd look better with silver edge color instead of gold. Now if Samsung is generous enough to run a software update with some of the Note 7 features it would even be better.
  • Stop Samsung, just stop
  • Please, please stop commenting
  • Triggered
  • Loved this color combo on my returned n7 . Wish it was available when I got my replacement edge 7 . But gold is still all good
  • ....This could also be a tactic to get those who are still holding out (for whatever reason) to turn in their Note-7s.
  • I'm not turning mine in until the s8 Orr note 8
  • ...Are you getting frequent pop-ups asking you to turn in the phone?
  • yes, mine does. Everytime I charge or restart my phone. I use wireless charging. I am waiting for s8 to exchange my blue note 7. then will get note 8 as soon as it is available.
  • They need to come out with that stealth black like the note 7 had.
  • They already have a black s7ege only the sides are gray ,which will be covered by a case anyway . With a Lil marketing this will be a hot seller over the holidays with some freebies
  • I know they already have a black s7 edge, I was referring to the black metal frame of the note 7. Not everyone uses a case either.
  • Christmas is red and green tho :(
  • And coral blue hehe
  • Give it up already. Sold my s7 edge now rocking a dtek60.
  • Thats cute...
  • My buddy just got a s7 edge (replacement for his note 7) and has owned it for I believe 10 days or so. Says it gets very hot, like uncomfortably hot and that when holding it the edge activates apps or phone calls (I've never owned one so I don't honestly know what is placed on the edge as far as apps go)
  • I still have my galaxy ace and am satisfied! I know it's appalling. I'm super patient with cellphones. Anyhow, I need to upgrade. Personally, I like S7, but I was wondering what makes S7edge better and more popular than S7.
  • Just wait for the s8 or note 8 next year
  • But you know the problem with waiting for S8 is then again I have to wait for another 6 months after it comes out to see how well it has worked. ;-)
  • I wouldn't use better as an adjective. The two variations address different preferences. I went with the Edge because of the larger display. I like a big screen. I honestly was kind of an edge display hater but took the plunge and it really isn't so bad. Besides you can disable it if you want. I do like swiping from the side better on an edge display. When my LG G3 is in a case, I sometimes miss making contact with the very edge of the display. Never an issue with the edge. I also never feel that web pages are getting cut off on the sides. I also like being able to swipe from the side to access my calculator app while inside of a banking app. The edge menus are sort of like Q-Slide from LG that allows you to overlay certain apps on top of others. Hold both variants in the store and that might be enough to make a decision. Good luck!
  • Hi, Reno. Thanks for your detailed evaluation. So your point is S7 edge is not better than S7 when it comes to technology. It's just the matter of taste.
  • That is my take away. I have only used the S7 Edge but I've read a number of the AC reviews for both devices. I was never, initially, a fan of the S7 or the Edge. The S7 was too small for me (I used the G3 and G4 both of which use 5.5" displays - didn't want to step backwards). The Edge had, well, the edge display which I was sure was a gimmick and would end up being annoying. Enter the Note 7. It only came with an Edge display BUT Andrew Martonik's review said the edge implementation was much better on the Note 7 so I got the phone. For the week I had it, it was the best phone I'd ever used. It also softened my stance on the curved screen. Now I have the S7 Edge. It is still not quite the Note 7 but I know why so many people bought and enjoy the phone. I do think it could benefit from Doze on the Go. Standby battery life is great but you can run it down pretty quickly if you are pushing over 3.5-4 hours of SOT (depending on the apps you are using of course). It suits my needs though. I'm an extremely light user of social media (no FB on my phone) so aside from answering calls and responding email and text, I'm not constantly using my phone (I use my G3 for music at my desk to save batter on my S7E). I do use it in the car for music and Waze every time I drive though and it does a great job managing those two apps in terms of speed, heat and battery drain.
  • Well, I am starting to consider S7 edge a decorative, gimmicky S7, which might not worth extra dollars. For me, a 5.1" works better I suppose as I am upgrading from Galaxy Ace. A 5.5" could be a shock to me. My point is S7 could be good for me as it's neither as small as iPhone 6s nor as bulky as 5.5". I've heard that S8 is going to be all screen without borders. I'm not sure it's beautifully designed, or could be. You never know.
  • If you don't want/need a bigger display, then the S7 should work just fine. I don't' feel the edge display in and of itself is not worth paying more for.
  • BW could iPhone 6s be a wiser alternative to S7?
  • What do you mean "wiser"?
  • I mean if it is a more sensible decision to buy iPhone rather than S7 as Apple has more reputation for durability.
  • Funny. My friend just replaced her 5s with a 6s and I just got an S7 Edge. We both have very nice cases on our phones and we both have insurance (well I have Geek Squad coverage). I'd say both phones are very well protected. One thing though, if she drops her phone in the toilet or pool, it's done. Mine is not. Remember Samsung has the Active line as well including the S7 active. Those phones are tanks from what I've read. I've already dropped mine in its case. Flat smack on the concrete. Even in the case I was afraid the glass back (which is NOT Gorilla Glass) might have suffered a stress fracture. Phone was fine. Maybe that is more telling of the Speck case I use but I also thing the phone is made well. You might want to check out Andrew's follow up review of the S7 as well as the Pocketnow "After the Buzz" video for it on YouTube.
  • One reason I prefer the LG V20 over the curved screen phones is that you don't have to worry about accidentally activating things because of your hand grasping the phone around the edges. I think the curved glass thing is a gimmick.
  • Never happens to me. There is one small tab that I can swipe over to access my edge menus. The tab is customizable. You can have it on the right or left, top or bottom or in the middle and you can adjust both the opacity and the size of the tab. Lastly, you can simply DISABLE the edge functions and just enjoy the display.
  • Yeah, sorry. Pass.
  • That's smart. I had the black Note 7 the first time around and the Coral Blue the second. Both of them were beautiful, but that coral blue really stood out.
  • Kind of like a drag queen on Easter Sunday. <wink>
  • Will it also bring Note 7 features?
  • Google, hey Google. This is how you make a BLUE phone. Take NOTE for the Pixel 2017.
  • Very nice. Now make an S7 version of the green S6. Had the latter as a temporary stand in for my first replacement Note 7 and it was mighty purdy.
  • We have no new phone since the Note burnt so here is a new color. Blah. I loved my Note 7. Hate the edge on the s7 edge. And don't want the small battery on the regular s7. Ready for the note8 though. Sans explosiveness.
  • Did you think they would make a new phone in 2 months? Honestly, did you really?
  • The all new s8 will drop in four months . And if you can't live without a note there's plenty of good used note 5 on ebay . I just picked up one like new for my S pen fix . The note 5 is still a very capable phone at a good price
  • That's the same recommendation I would make.
  • Wanted this badly for the Note 7 just before the recall. If they make it compelling enough with incentives, I just my ditch my current S7e just to get it back in this colour (silly, I know)...
  • Wish Sammy would push the AOD interactive notification feature over from the Note 7.
  • I no right ,the note 7 screen off features are so much better then the one on my 7 edge . Hell just give us the grace UI then I'd be satisfied until the note 8 are s8 is released
  • I hope they do. You'd think they would do it already to keep people happy for the note 7 debacle.
  • What I've read is that there gonna bring 7.1 plus the grace UI at the same time by the end of the year it's actually on Bata now soooo close . I personally could care less about 7.1 just give me the note 7 UI
  • Great news. Hear that buzzing? That's all the busy little smartphone bees over at Samsung trying to recover from the Note 7 debacle. Good things to come I'm sure.
  • I hope so.
  • Hurry up and get it to Verizon. Then I can finally close the book on this Note 7 fiasco.
  • as such..for the edge/ or any amoled display for that matter, a midnight black color will be nice..it gives a nice infinity illusion when the screen is off...
and off topic..samsung should have integrated a small lip(for refernce check the nokia n97? i think) on the top and bottom metal frame so that the screen never comes in contact with a surface if said surface is flat enough..then i can finally carry it around without a case
  • Carry a glass Samsung without a case haha your a braver man then me . And if you have sweaty hands forget about it. It's always gonna be hard to protect that curved screen..but I've excepted that responsibility
  • What will it hurt?
  • How about we get that Beautiful Coral Blue on a non-explosive Note 7.
  • Gorgeous
  • SOB, I should have waited a little longer to replace my Note 7!
  • I I
  • That looks nice. I just wish they'd make a coral blue version of the non-edge S7.
  • I agree!
  • Please bring this color to the S8! Beautiful...
