Mobile shopping takes record share of Black Friday sales

Adobe has released its initial annual online shopping data for the biggest shopping days of the year, Black Friday and Thanksgiving Day, showing record growth in online shopping from mobile devices. Overall, while tablets saw their share of shopping traffic drop a bit, smartphones generated a record share of sales. From Adobe:

While mobile shopping saw strong growth with a 34 percent share of sales, the role of tablets continued to decline. Tablets drove 15 percent of sales on Black Friday, a 2 percent decrease YoY. Smartphones generated a record 22 percent share of sales, 70 percent more than in 2014. iPhones and iPads continued to drive the majority of mobile sales with 67 and 84 percent respectively.

In all, mobile shopping generated $583 million in sales on Black Friday and $639 million on Thanksgiving day. To top things off, mobile shopping visits exceeded desktop visits for the first time ever, with a share of 57 percent, and drove 37 percent of actual online sales on that day. Finally, Android phones alone drove 33 percent of smartphone sales on Black Friday.
