Sprint Galaxy S4

Galaxy Gear support and Samsung KNOX in latest update for Sprint's GS4

As predicted by a recently-leaked update timetable, the Sprint Samsung Galaxy S4 is today getting its Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update. Sprint's GS4 is the second U.S. model to get the upgrade, following Verizon's rollout on Monday. In addition to bringing the GS4 up to what is, for the moment, the latest version of Android, the update also adds support for the Galaxy Gear smartwatch, while implementing Samsung's KNOX enterprise security layer.

If the leaked timetable is to be believed, updates for AT&T and T-Mobile's Galaxy S4s should follow on Nov. 13 and 18 respectively.

Sprint subscribers, hit the comments and let us know how you're getting on with the new firmware.

Sprint Galaxy S4 getting Android 4.3 update

Definitely just you man. Galaxy S4 is one of the greatest looking phones on the market. Toss up with the HTC One.

If anyone is having issues with the update try going into your application manager and under the All tab scroll down to Google Services Framework. Then Clear Data. Then back out and check Update Samsung Software. It can take quite a few times (one guy reported 15 times of going back and forth, mine took 6) but this allowed my phone to update! Running 4.3 now.

OMG thanks so much! I cant believe this worked. If only I saw this post earlier. TYVM for taking the time to post this. I'm updating to 4.3 right now! Your the best!!!!!!!!!

That worked. Thanks a bajillon! I have been checking twice a day since this was reported. Android Central you should turn this comment into a post so everyone sees it!

Trying to do this, and on the update screen, it says

"Last checked for update pn 12/31/1969"

HAHA this is funny, as cell phones were not even around in 1969 , I was 18 years old, and KNOW I did not have a cell phone for at last another 15 years...

Is this common? Also, Ive done this process 3 times so far, and it just comes back to

"Last checked for update at (current time)

But when I repeat the clear data and come back to the update screen the 1969 message comes back?? wth???

AHHH!!!! #4 was the trick, update underway.. NOW lets just hope it doesnt screw up my phone!

Thanks for the great way forward...

I got the Samsung gear update after a reboot. I've not received the Sprint OTA update for Android 4.3 though. I'm sure Sprint is rolling them out in batches. So, I'm sure I will receive it later today.

Guaranteed. Wait for a patched tar for Odin. Their are apps that try to persist root across OTAs, such as OTA RootKeeper, and even SuperSU and SuperUser have some settings that try to hide su, but I don't think they usually work with Samsung OTAs.

4.3 has new Root permissions!
Be prepared for some root apps to not work properly.

Posted from my Beta Tester AC app!

Still waiting for this update in the UK on my unlocked S4.

What's taking Sammy so long to get this out to others than those in Russia and Germany in Europe?

so.... samsung making the gear was not a bad idea after all huh, watch these other carriers scramble to provide 4.3 to samsung phones lol

Lucas I'm from Indiana and just updated today. If it's not showing up in Samsung Software update try this.

Congratulations sprint owners you will join an elite brotherhood of 4.3 devices today. LOL still feels weird Verizon was first out the gate. Love this update makes the s4 run so smooth and buttery

Given that the One was out 6 weeks before the S4, and had been lingering on an Android version older than the stock firmware for all but those "three weeks" - I'd dare say you better find something better to brag about...

And they will have the newest version of Android for a whole day or two before 4.4 is announced.

I don't have am update yet my phone says is updated to the latest update anyone know why?

Posted via Android Central App

Sprint tends to stagger the rollout. Have you tried updating through kies and see what happens?

Battery life seemed to be pretty good for me. I woke up at 8am yesterday and when I went to bed by 10pm I had about 25% left

One thing bad I already notice about this update Device Administrators is grayed-out to enable KNOX as an Administrator. So, now I'm unable to change how my phone locks.

It does fix the WiFi and 4G being on at the same time, I also notice it has a different symbol for 4g, it now looks like 4GLTE. One thing bad I already notice about this update, Device Administrators is grayed-out to enable Samsung KNOX as an Administrator. So, now I'm unable to change how my phone locks. What you need to know is that the Samsung KNOX feature locks you out. Security is very tight on it, won't even let you uncheck apps for the annoying notifications that pop-up from almost every app, from the app manager.

seriously?!??! so you have no ability to set the phone up the way you want it (not even talking about rooting or anything). When does the the administrative rights appear? and if thats so that confirms it for me, skip the update on the 11/13.

You don't - you might have 4.2.1,2 or 3 - which was a device specific fix related to power for different model types. Not even Nexus devices have received 4.4 - so it's not possible that you would have a TW skinned version of an OS that isn't released yet, but a second version of an unreleased peice of software already released yet. Unless you've been editing your build prop to "be cool" but that takes a special kind of stupid dildo - and I think more highly of you than that already :D

That's how I did it (manually updated from stock recovery) and it updated fine.

My phone is non-rooted stock to be clear.

Yes, knox is for the people who want to use their phones as work phones as well. It allows you to separate work fron play with extra security.

So, someone earlier posted that they can't change things on their phone now with Knox installed. Do you already have it? Is there a way to disable it or push it to the background because I don't use my phone for work.

I'm not so sure this was a smart thing to include for those of us who don't use their phone from anything other than a consumer standpoint and not a business one.

I found this information on Samsung's website. Exceptions: KNOX is preloaded as a stub on China open models and hidden on models for operators that opt-out of the KNOX preload. In the future, users can download KNOX from the Samsung Apps and Google Play stores and install it directly onto certain flagship devices. Currently, Samsung KNOX comes preloaded on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 edition).

Which means for the Samsung Galaxy S4 owners we will have to wait for the KNOX app.

Also you can go to the Google Play Store and download an app called Centrify which has support for Samsung KNOX containers. Then active it as a Device Administrator.

Has anyone tried updating with kies on pc? Does it show up there yet? I'm at work so I haven't checked yet

Posted via Android Central App

There is KNOX for the Enterprise and KNOX Personal which is for the Non-Eneterprise user I believe. Some sort of update will be needed or maybe Samsung will release the app to the Play Store at some time in the future. For now guess I'll have to wait for administrative privileges?

I want my 4.3 update for the HTC one on Vodafone in the UK !!!! Feels like every time i read a tech site there is another device picking the update up other than mine ARHHHHHHHH.

I wonder if it will be much like the Verizon update was and that it will start rolling out in larger quantity at about 10pm eastern

This stupid I have to Waite until November to get my 4.3update when the other carriers have there. there so slow for everything thay suckkkkkkkkk i dislike you At&t

Posted via Android Central App

I just checked on Sprint website. It's states that there is an update that was released today but it will be rolling out in stages.

Posted via Android Central App

No update yet. Sprint can't even get LTE rolled out on time so what makes you think that 4.3 will be out in a timely fashion. Shame on you Sprint!

Updated my fiance's phone in Ohio tonight. Downloading a rooted version for mine now.

Posted via Android Central App

Sprint Sucked at getting updates out on time. Alot of people bash Verizon for the same thing but I had nothing but bad experiences with sprint all around. I see not much has changed.

Posted via Android Central App

Rolled it out starting yesterday?! I wanna know where this *&%$#@ started because San Antonio is a large city and we haven't got the update yet! When 4G rolled out we were 1 of 1st 4 cities to

New York. Been waiting for the update since yesterday. It's 8:30PM, 2 full days, and still NO update. Screw you Sprint...Forget about this "update".

Oh no I've been perturbed by Sprint for a while. Constant issues with battery life on the current firmware, connectivity issues with WiFi and 4G at times, email sometimes don't sync. Phone was alright before the last update. This is why I've been anticipating for 4.3. Did the manual update already so whatever I'm done waiting. Hopefully 4.3 will be the end to the battery drain issues as well as other countless issues.

I hope so, too. My battery only last 5 hours. I have two additional batteries I purchased from Samsung and they all last 5 hours when I am out and 7 hours when I am home.

Don't wait for OTA. Download the .zip file and update manually. It takes less than 10 minutes. Do it and stop waiting.

Just got the update in NC. I tried that Google App Services clear about 8 times, got the update an hour later, not sure if the two are related or not. So far so good.

If you are trying to do the update and you do the following:

If anyone is having issues with the update try going into your application manager and under the All tab scroll down to Google Services Framework. Then Clear Data. Then back out and check Update Samsung Software. It can take quite a few times (one guy reported 15 times of going back and forth, mine took 6) but this allowed my phone to update! Running 4.3 now.

I also could not get this to work either until I also hit Force Stop after clearing the data. Then bam, I finally got the update after 4 days of trying.

Actually on the sprint s4 it seems to over heat my phone once I get to 50% and takes about 3-4 hours to fully charge. Has anyone else noticed this?

Took about 6 tines if doing the google framework clear data and ginally got the update in TX. Why do we have to do this to get an ota update?

Posted via Android Central App

I don't think it really works. You just got lucky. They must just released the update in Texas. There are millions of S4 users out there and they have to do it in stages.

But I am still waiting!

I've tried this a few times over the last few days and nothing. But, it finally worked tonight!

Downloading the update now.

My battery life has improved and I had my phone overheat alot before this update now it's cool to the touch.

I got some sort of update on October 30. It took a while to download, restarted, and I noticed nothing new. So, I checked out the version, and it said 4.2.2. Same as before. I've tried clearing the Google Services Framework, and refreshing the Samsung Update. . .to no avail. Nothing changes.

I'm only anxious for a revision to see if it fixes the glitch mine has with forgetting it has an SD card.

Update!

Michigan

DH got his update three days ago. I'm still waiting. Same phone, same carrier, same frigging bill! How dumb is that?

I just don't get it. He looks at me yesterday and asks, "What does this firmware update thing mean? (in his notifications) I didn't want to click it if it's not a good thing."

"How long has that been there," I ask.

"Oh, since Monday, I think. Or Sunday."

Me: headdesk.

And still nothing. And when I check for an update...nothing.

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Well I was blessed this morning with 4.3, finally!!!!! Chi-Town it's here for us or the "TiredOfHittingTheUpdateButtonPeople", it's here. I think I was part of that bunch. So happy!!

So? Do you love it? Hate it? Was it worth waiting for? Have you had trouble with Knox?

STILL nothing for me! Someone needs to explain why the DH got his almost a week ago now and I'm still waiting. I bought both on a two-for-one price, activated within 10 minutes of each other AT THE SPRINT STORE and yet, his has updated and I'm still waiting. I'd love to know their logic in all of this.

HELP!!!

This update happened on my phone yesterday & I want to UNDO it! It is terrible!! I am now not able to access some of my locked S Memo messages as it tells me my password is wrong. I use letters, symbols & numbers for my particular password & it tells me that the symbols are invalid. I have also noticed that I can't access my photos from my album I try to click on once of my photos & it totally freezes the phone. I even tried shutting my phone off for 30 mins & still this is a problem. I also get this security error now saying that an unauthorized app is trying to access the internet. All apps that I use are able to access the internet. Can I please get rid of this update?? HELP!!

I have a Sprint Galaxy S4 and I still haven't recieved the OTA 4.3 update and it's Novenber 19th! Does anyone know why some of us are still waiting?

Got my 4.3 update and now the Google navigation app has changed so much that it is almost unusable. This was my most-used and favorite app, and now it stinks big time. Takes longer to get to the actual navigation, does not automatically use my current location as the start location, cannot zoom out and in using on screen buttons (now must use the two finger sizing method which is extremely difficult and dangerous to do while driving), and does not show traffic on my selected route! I read somewhere that uninstalling Google maps updates can restore the previous navigation app. Does anyone know how to do this?

Has anyone heard of glitches with the Samsung 4.3 update. Since my phone was updated, sometimes my calls won't release. I can end the call, it looks like the call is ended, but when I go into camera, it says it cannot complete the action because it's in a call. Also when I am in a music app and adjust the volume key, it changes the ringtone volume instead of the music. That was my first clue something was amiss. Only happened after the update and not all the time. Naturally, people who try to call me goes right to VM and I am walking around none the wiser. Any suggestions would be appreciated. And yes, I did try factory reset. Thanks in advance.
