Samsung has announced that both the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge have been certified by the UK government for data-at-rest. Samsung is the first mobile phone manufacturer to receive said certification from the Communications and Electronics Security Group (CESG). Both smartphones are now recommended for use by government and public sector organizations, including police forces, hospitals, and local councils.
Samsung has had its KNOX security platform recognized elsewhere prior to this certification in the UK, but it marks a notable step forward in penetrating the official hardware market with Samsung now sporting the ability to score deals with government and public bodies to roll out the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge. Graham Long, Vice President Enterprise Business Team, Samsung UK & Ireland, commented on the announcement:
"Mobile security and data confidentiality is of paramount importance to Samsung, and we are delighted that the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge have been recognised as the most secure devices for use by the UK government. CESG's acknowledgment of Samsung KNOX is testament to the high standard of security offered by the Samsung Android platform and once again reinforces our leading position in area, helping to provide secure mobile technology to government organisations and businesses throughout the UK."
Today's news shows that Samsung is not content with simply the consumer market and needs to provide not only solutions to enterprise, but government parties too.
