Rumors have been circulating over the past couple of weeks suggesting Samsung’s hard at work on a Jelly Bean update for the (international) Galaxy S3, and that release is slated for late August or early September. Today we have the first indication of what this new software version might actually look like, as video footage of Android 4.1 on the S3 has leaked out from Mexican site AndroidMX.

The video shows exactly what we’d expect Jelly Bean on the Galaxy S3 to look like -- you’ve still got all your TouchWiz customizations there, and that’s still 90 percent of what you’ll see in normal operation. However, fancy new Jelly Bean features like Google Now and the redesigned notification area are present and accounted for.

As for speed, the S3 looks fast on Android 4.1, but then it’s pretty speedy on ICS, too, so that’s nothing new.

Regardless of how much new stuff there ends up being in this update, international Galaxy S3 owners will be hoping that the rumors of a release in the next month or so turn out to be true. We’ll certainly be crossing our fingers.

Excited!...for five seconds before realizing that it's going to take more than a month to get past US carriers...

ArgonNJ#CB says:

A month, hahahahahaha, you will be lucky to see this officially released on any US carrier before the 1st quarter of 2013.

Rob White says:

+ infinity

I hope nobody holds their breath waiting on this to come to ANY phone before Christmas or like you said first of the yr. The US carriers have proved they are much too good at dragging their feet. Not to mention this is Samsung we are talking about. How many handsets have they released in the last 1.5 - 2 yrs that have never even seen so much as a bug fix?

qbngator says:

Pretty sick. Did anyone else notice a steering wheel icon on the drop-down menu, next to the Airplane Mode icon? Driving Mode?

durthquake says:

You must not own an S3 or are blind, since it is there now on ICS.

qbngator says:

I have an S3, and I'm not blind. Although driving Mode is accessible through S-Voice, there's no icon for it next to the Airplane Mode icon in the drop down menu for the stock S3 on Sprint running ICS.

Zammo76 says:

That's already on my ICS S3.

Taz89 says:

Cannot wait.. Will make the already awesome s3 even faster smoother and slicker.

Gotta say there is no better ice cream sandwich device on the market. With jellybean it only gets better from an speed standpoint. Truthfully I have to see the overall difference between Ics and jellybean before I except the update. Google now isn't enough just to have jellybean. There is no better device on the market with Ics and sometimes you just leave well enough alone.

litlprince says:

Its more then google now.

Its the difference in notifications and of course if anything... more then google now is the difference in speed. Project Butter alone is worth the update. the differences being shown in a few video of similar devices says it all.

Wait.... Didn';t see anything about FOLDERS... Drag and Drop Folders!!! I need it now!

Averix says:

Yeah, I was hoping to see that too. It looked on one screen like the same Samsung TouchWiz folder was still there. Ug, why break something so easy to use in the base OS with a crappy UI customization?

popologuy says:

THe Spanish translation is: Jelly Bean coming soon to everybody in the entire whole wide world - suck it, US of A!

SlimJ87D says:

Just waiting for the first "Oh, that's a first for Samsung to update early, derp derp derp" comment.

If the Verizon S3 gets 4.1 before their Nexus devices... I may just go crazy.

ArgonNJ#CB says:

You won't see JB on any Verizon device before 2013. Even the much anticipated RAZR HD is rumored to ship with ICS. It's absolutely ridiculous if you ask me.

XChrisX says:

One of the main flaws with Android. Every device should be a nexus device, no exceptions. Apple changed the game in mobile phones when they told the carries to keep their hands off. It's a shame Android isn't the same.

ArgonNJ#CB says:

Nexus doesn't mean what it used to. The Nexus devices for Verizon and Sprint hasn't been updated to JB yet.

Believe it when I see it.

Besides the smoothness and speed of JB the main reason i want it is so that I can finally have a proper working version of Google Now on my phone instead of the pretty good but still pretty buggy Verizon that is floating around out there.

Nosferatu524 says:

maybe with this coming out they'll get hwcomposer working for the cooked ROMs on XDA already running JB. :)

makiger says:

Entiendo todo lo que dice yuju!!! :D

Ohleo says:

This is cool but I have been on JB for a week now (Verizon) with everything working. Do people just not wanna flash?

What version are you using?

Yes some people don't want to and it shouldn't be the solution to a problem.

Monkey Pi says:

Do you have the same weird hangup about the majority of people not being interested in other things you like to do, or is just flashing roms?

Ohleo says:

At least everything that I have tried

briankariu says:

HTC shame on you!

Incubus123 says:

I wish he would've gone through the camera/gallery features as well..

Oh well.. im sure there will be a leak in a few days

Samsung should release it on September 3rd and put some major marketing $$$ into pushing it with the GS3. Thinking about it ~ it might give Apple a run for their money with their new phone launch. Just a thought...

ArgonNJ#CB says:

Why, you still won't see it here in the US. It will take the carriers at least 6 months to "test" it before they will release it to you. If you are expecting an official release for your Verizon, Sprint, AT&T or T Mobile anytime before quarter 1 2013 then you are obviously new to Android.

It was a hypothetical "should" and just smart business. Do I think it's going to happen? Probably not an official launch, but than again I've read that it's already been tested and they are waiting for Google to say "launch". But what good is hearsay? Again it's just a thought, and technically you're still "new" to Android too lol - the OS is only 5 years old (of course with years of development beforehand)...

gregmcph says:

Good to know Now is in there.

jontalk says:

Would have been nice in English, LOL. Where did you guys see Now? I guess I wasn't watching closely enough since it's Google Now that really amazes me.. And my ATT S3 doesn't have any steering wheel icon either..

mdmitchell13 says:

add captions and transcribe in youtube... can at least somewhat get what he is saying in english

NateBoii says:

All these sammy phones hitting the 10m mark, whats up with htc and the one series lineup.
