Android 2.1 on CDMA HeroAndroid 2.1 on CDMA Hero

For those of you with CDMA HTC Heroes who don't mind a bit of hackery, some cooked ROMs are in the works to bring Android 2.1 to your phones.

From XDA Developers member flipzmode come the above screen shots (and more after the break), which have been based off of another 2.1 project at HTCPedia. This is highly unofficial, of course, and still in beta, so there are some bugs. Notably not working are the camera, visual voicemail, multitouch and the light sensor. But this is one that's worth keeping an eye one. (Thanks, Keith!)

That is looking good! Can we assume that something similar to this will be used to give the HTC Eris on Verizon 2.1 as well?

i would assume so

Once the eris gets root that is.

flipzmode has also put out a stellar custom "FRESH ROM"... he used the latest RUU UI and laid it on top of 1.5 (everything works, including some nice speed tweaks baked in for good form).

His ROM updates are nice and easy in the form of a ZIP package that can be used easily on ROOTED Sprint Heros.

It would be helpful if HTC would actually release the kernel sources for the CDMA devices, they have only released the GSM Kernel.

You ask them for the Kernel and they (HTC's help desk) point you to the GSM kernel and claim that all the missing drivers that are required to compile the CDMA kernel are not under the GPLv2.

Troy says:

HTC is afraid of being shown up once again by the guys at XDA but is only asking for legal action by not supplying the kernal. Withholding the kernal is certainly breaking some open source legal agreements.

i think so.if Herve Leger would actually release the kernel sources for the CDMA devices, they have only released the GSM Kernel.

So what this is just a cooked Rom when will the 2.1 update come out for the Sprint hero?

Damn. I hate the new Apps|Phone|Add software buttons on the bottom of the screen. I like the current one, sort of circular. This one is so gay!
