What you need to know

  • Renders of the upcoming Galaxy S21 FE have been leaked.
  • The renders show a similar design to the Galaxy S21 with a few slight changes.
  • No specs have been revealed, but it's expected to rival many "affordable" flagships.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 smartphones have only been out for a few months, but it's already time to start thinking about what's coming next. A few weeks ago, launch details of the Galaxy S21 FE were leaked, pointing to an earlier release in August. This weekend, we got the first images of what the "affordable" flagship will look like, and it's more or less what we expected.

The renders, provided by prolific leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer aka @OnLeaks, show a design very similar to the current batch of Galaxy S21 devices. It will reportedly feature a 6.4" display, putting it between the vanilla S21 and the S21+. On the back is a triple camera setup that also takes design cues from Samsung's current flagship, although you'll notice that the camera bump design has changed ever-so-slightly. It appears as a single piece that's raised from the edge of the phone chassis instead of appearing as a separate, detached element.

Unfortunately, there isn't much in the way of specs, but if last year's Samsung Galaxy S20 FE is any indication, the S21 FE will feature flagship specs at a sub-flagship price. That means at least a 120Hz AMOLED display and most likely the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888. And though it may lack the incredible zooming power of the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, the cameras on this phone are likely to impress.

With the possible absence of the Galaxy Note line this year, the second half of 2021 will be left to the S21 FE and the rumored successors to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2, which is likely to include a mysterious dual-hinge folding smartphone. With the right price, there's no doubt that the Galaxy S21 FE will be one of this year's best Android phones.

  • What ever happened to Flagship, Mid Tier and Entry Level? Now all phones that are coming out are having too many choices. Less is more
  • So, more choices is a bad thing? It just sounds like you don't want to think about it.
  • Personally I think it's overkill. I'm for choices but you have to draw the line at some point
  • That's the beauty of Android, choice, if you don't like choice go to the iOS and iPhone prison and then maybe you'll appreciate the choice that Samsung is offering, the point of the Fan Edition of the S line like the S20 FE is to offer what people love most about the S line at a more affordable price and the S20 FE was a success and I absolutely love mine.
  • What is the point of the S21 FE????
You have the S21 which is good enough as a value smartphone.
You will have the A72 which nearly matches the FE but adds the 3.5mm jack and MicroSD port with a 90hz screen which is good enough but with a 6.7inch screen.
So the FE will be for those who will say S21 is too small, the A72 is too big but cheap, and the S21+ being too expensive?? what a confusing choice
  • Does a72 have dex?
  • Better to have more choices than less. Just because someone doesn't like a phone doesn't mean another won't like it. If the choices do not sell and make a profit, then the company should retire that line. However, if Samdung is coming out with a 21 FE, it implies the 20FE was a success.
Easy to research and narrow down what a person wants in a phone, and then decide.
  • The A71 is not as good as the S20 FE 5G, my S20 FE 5G has no touch screen issues and I value having a flagship processor in my Samssung phones.
  • I'm not interested in the S21 FE if the screen is only 6.4 inches, I like the current 6.5 inch screen size of my S20 FE 5G but then again I wouldn't be getting the S21 FE anyway as I'm happy with my S20 FE 5G.
  • Loved the S20 FE except for the touchscreen issues. Sold it for the A71 which I like a lot. It's better but just a but too big.
  • The A71 Isn't as good as the S20 FE 5G, but it's maybe good enough for you, for me the S20 FE 5G is much better and I don't have touch screen issues, maybe I was lucky. I need flagship specs for my Samsung phones.
  • I'm all for the FE, why? Many people can't afford the base model S21? So, the FE had a 100 dollar discount right out of the box. Many got it for 549.00 buck-a-roos with flagship specs? Plus it is a great performer for much cheaper, it's that simple folks!
  • no SD slot?
