Words with Friends

Words with Friends -- the uber-popular Scrabble-esqe word game for the iOS -- is coming to Android, according to an e-mail tipster Jordan has sent us and others.

In the e-mail, Jordan asked about the prospects of an Android version of the game. The response he got from the developer:

"We've since hired a team to develop an Android Version. They're actively at work on it at the moment and are getting close to being done, so not too much longer!"

We've asked the developer -- which was purchased by Zynga earlier this month -- for any more details about the Android release. Will we be able to play (and beat) our iPhone brethren? When, exactly, will see the app? Will it be ad-supported? Stay tuned, folks.

More on Words with Friends in the Android Central Forums

Update: Just heard back from the Words with Friends folks, who had this to add:

"We are working on an Android version, but we're not ready to share much more beyond that. Our goal is that it will be compatible with the iOS version from day one."

Eww. It's Zynga now? I have avoided Farmville long enough. I have been waiting for WWF to come to Android, because apple fanboys are too stupid for wordwise pro, or too cheap. I'll probably play, but damned if it didn't take them too long to get to Android. It'll never be an Angry Birds, they are about 6mos late. Thanks for the heads up.

I AM SO IN LOVE & ADDICTED TO WORDFEUD. I PLAY WORDS WITH FRIENDS ON MY IPOD TOUCH, BUT AS SOON AS I LEAVE HOME I'M DONE....VERY INTERESTED TO SEE IF THIS WILL PROMPT WORDFEUD TO MAKE THEIR APP EVEN BETTER THAN IT ALREADY IS.

HOPEFULLY, THEY HAVE A FREE VERSION LIKE APPLE DOES.

The iOS version has both a free ad supported and $1.99 no ad versions. I'm not sure if the pricing will be the same on the Android side.

Make this $2.99 or less and I'll buy it on day one.

I apparently am the odd duck in that I don't like WordFeud at all. I tried it and I also tried Word Wise Pro and I like Word Wise much better. I like the Word Wise will show a shadow of where you are about to put the tile. And I dislike that Word Feud defaults to the zoomed in view of the board.

Word Wise has push notifications that while most people in the market say it don't work (Airmail), it works GREAT for me and my wife. We both bought the Pro version of the game and play daily.

I am excited for Words with Friends mainly because I don't have many friends who play Word Wise and I have a ton of friends with iPhones who play Words with Friends.

I've never played word with friends, but wordfeud is awesome and WAY better than word wise. In my opinion. But I do play words wise, only because it's the only way to play with my ipod friends.

As long as I have Word Feud, why would I ever need this?!
