The latest figures from Kantar show Android increasing its market share to 64.9 percent in the U.S., an increase of 2.8 percentage points. Samsung was able to retake the number one manufacturer spot through strong sales of the Galaxy S6.
From Kantar Worldpanel:
The first full month of sales of the Galaxy S6 allowed Samsung to regain the market lead in the US and grow its share of Android sales from 52% in the three months ending in April to 55% for the three months ending in May.
The Galaxy S6 came in third in terms of overall sales, behind the iPhone 6 and Galaxy S5. LG also contributed to the surge in Android's market share, with the South Korean vendor nearly doubling its market share in the U.S. from a year ago. However, HTC and Motorola saw their shares fall compared to the same period last year.
The iPhone 6 also witnessed strong sales in Great Britain, Germany, Italy and France. In China, Huawei sold the most number of Android handsets, occupying second place in the smartphone segment behind Apple, with Xiaomi coming in at third.
