It's been just one hundred days since the Samsung Galaxy S3 made its international debut in London, but already 20 million of the handsets have been sold worldwide, according to the manufacturer. In its official blog post today, Samsung notes that the S3 passed this milestone around three times as fast as last year's Galaxy S2, no doubt helped along by a streamlined U.S. launch and an aggressive marketing campaign. The S2, another big seller for the Korean manufacturer, took some ten months to reach the 20 million milestone.

Today's announcement also shows that sales of the device remain strong. It took Samsung 50 days to sell its first 10 million S3 phones, and the company says they're selling at a rate of around 200,000 per day.

As we rapidly approach the final quarter of the year, there's little doubt that the Galaxy S3 will emerge as the best-selling Android handset of the year. However, it's biggest test will come in a couple of weeks, when it's pitted against Apple's next iPhone.

Update: We've got Samsung's press release after the break.

Samsung sells 20 million Galaxy S3 phones in first 100 days

Sorry talhamid, that just sounds awful rofl. No t9 dialing? Really? Out with the good and in with the desperate. And the "first ever review"...on a random blogspot? yeah OK

Getting back to the real story here, nice one Samsung, love my s2! If the s4 or new nexus isnt out in time i'll be joining these statistics and going s3 myself

talhamid... The iNote and whatever the Iphone you`re talking about, it has nothing new, may be to you and to all IPhone fan boys, but not for Android reader.
If you deep in the SGS3 you`ll see what this phone has toofferr.
On SGS3 you can call the the person who`s text you without dialing his/ her phone number, this just one feature on the SGS3.... That`s answer to your iNote.

really now?????? look the s2 won best smartphone of the year it beat out the iphoney 4s and it ook the galaxy s3 only 100 days to out sell the iphoney 4s thats been out for 11 months lmao what do you think the galaxy s3 will do to the iphoney 5?????

They ARE getting there, though. They are improving sales by orders of magnitude with every flagship Galaxy model. In my opinion SGS3 will be the first phone to seriously warrant comparison with iPhone sales, i.e. it will form a sizeable fraction. As for whether it will ever overtake it, I don't think so since Samsung like to spread their sales over dozens of devices.

People don't realize that iphone numbers shouldn't be directly compared to any Android phones. There is one iphone per year, and only one manufacturer. There are no competitors in iOS. There are ridiculous numbers of Android phones made a year. The fact that Samsung sold 20 million phones in a time where the better phone is only weeks/months away is amazing. If Samsung and others also made iOS devices, Apple would sell far fewer. If Apple made an Android device, they would sell far fewer.

In before "shipped != sold": unless you can provide information on where the vendors store 20 million "unsold" phones, don't bother posting.

well when apple can come up with something new and not just give you fan boys a few lil upgrades and think its the 2nd coming of god maybe just maybe we will have something to hate on. But for now all you fan boys just keep giving apple your money for the same phone year after year after year

No not really but when they only give you the lil upgrades that they do and you fan boys aka Sheeps act like its a all new phone and brag about it makes it so so so sad to think it takes so lil to make you sheeps happy

Samsung sells 20 million Galaxy S3s in 100 days. Guess that means Apple will sue us for using credit cards with rounded corners.

Woo Hoo Samsung !! :)

A coworker here actually thinks the iphone 5 is going to have a 7 inch screen .I cant convince him otherwise.Guess in a few weeks hes going finally fiqure it out . Oh well I tried lol

I talked to another coworker I think he finally fiqured it out,Because he mentioned to them it was going to have the 4 inch screen just 10 minutes ago.Maybe he did have them mixed up since he might have been reading about the ipad mini to.

David be nice to your co-worker you know it takes those fanboys a while to fig out things like them getting ripped off every year with a few lil upgrades maybe one day they will learn just maybe
