Moto X updateA software update for the Moto X is rolling out to T-Mobile customers today, and mixed into the list of improvements and bug fixes is some news that most everyone is waiting to hear — Improved photos (color accuracy, exposure, focus speed). Also listed, and equally important (though not as high profile) are fixes for Moto Assist, "choppy" audio during voice calls and improved Touchless Control. Those are important, and it's great to see them addressed so quickly.

But the camera is what most users have been grumbling about. It's clearly capable of decent images, as you can see a few here and there. But often, the Moto X seems to struggle when trying to get the right shot. Hopefully, today's update helps.

There's no word on when or if we'll see this update for other carrier models, or the new unlocked developer editions, but we would expect that to happen. We've checked our AT&T units, of course, and will continue to do so.

Moto X update coming to T-Mobile version, improves camera quality

I am officially revoking your internet privileges. After school you will come home, do your homework, eat dinner, and promptly go to bed, You will not be able to use the computer/internet for the next month. At that time I will assess if I think you have indeed learned you lesson. If you have, you will be able to have limited internet access starting at 15 minutes each night. Your mother will be in to tuck you in promptly at 8:30 tonight. Think about what you have done and how you have behaved.
-Your Father.

Man, that brings back memories. My mom and dad used to hammer my internet time lol

Really? To my eyes, only the indoor picture of the blue room with the white dresser looked better "now." They all looked really bad. That said, the comparison with the G2/S4 (GE worth noting...) shows that more often it's whomever is behind the camera to applaud or blame. I've taken much better pictures even on the ol Gnex...

I wish you luck in the way you did. I love Motorola and want it back to the game.
But not at present price. Competition is awesome and in the end we all win because of choices.

C mon C mon Motorola and Jerry.

The sad part — the Moto X is a better phone than the G2. You'll never know, and spend money on the inferior product.

There's a reason people who get all the newer phones for free are using the Moto X.

Hopefully Verizon pushes out something soon but I won't hold my breath...

This will decide for me if I will continue my contract with Verizon or bail. If they can get the update out fast then I'm happy to stay...

Of the X ever gets it. Verizon clearly doesn't give a crap about the moto x. I went to a VZW store the week it came out to feel it (and i got one too replace gnex) and i couldnt find it. There was a whole wall dedicated to the new Droids though . I did find the moto x eventually though. Where was it? Tucked in the corner on the same display as some windows phone 8 phones. Like it was an afterthought.

I wonder if with this update someone can pull it and provide it for other phones as the moto x camera apk.

Wow what an improvement! To bad im returning this T Mobile model when my Dev Edition gets in. Hope this update comes already in the DE.

Played with one of these at the Verizon store, fantastic build quality. If I was looking for this kind of phone it would be a no brainer compared to the competition.

Too bad they didn't make the camera app available on the Play store so everyone could get it at the same time. It's just an app like anything else.

Does the T-Mobile version include WiFi calling, like some of their other phones? Also, would this feature work on AT&T, if the phone were SIM unlocked?

The T-Mobile version does not support Wifi Calling:
[link removed, check T-Mobile Support DOC-8370]

Even if it did it wouldn't work on T-Mobile. The Wifi Calling system checks the SIM card ID to verify the phone is authorized on the T-Mobile network. When I ported over it wouldn't work on the temp number until my account matched the SIM ID.

Anandtech also has a pretty good before/after comparison, it's striking; and the fact that Moto is so committed to updating and enhancing the X is also very encouraging. I almost wish the Nexus 5 was based off this rather than the G2... Although I still like LCD displays better, but I love the X's size and build quality.

aww hell yeah, hell yeah!! (im saying this in the voice of a dude on vine who lives in NY that captures people in nice cars and praises them. hilarious. if you dont know what im talking about, check out buzzfeed)

I am on tmo and really want to get a moto x, but there is NO WAY IN HELL i will settle for a black or white one. If TMO can get moto maker and the ability to finance them like the rest of their handsets i would JUMP on this in a heartbeat (pun intended!

Too bad they didn't get the camera performance correct before carrier release like HTC, LG, and as I would expect, Sony. I would like to see an American (Google) manufacturer do very well. Camera performance is extremely important, for example, every event has practically everyone holding up their smartphones bordering on the ridiculous.

This is why in 18 months you will be the Top Carrier T-Mo..
You are quietly becoming the Pace Setter.. The Leader in how to do things the Right Way for your followers.. These are the baby steps needed to Rule the Roost by 2015..

Just continue to remember those of us that are not swayed by High-End devices.. And maintain options like your $360.00 a year Calling/Txt/Data plans with Wi-Fi Calling and eventually, a Lot More people will see what a lot of us smart one's already see and take advantage of..

Just keep doing what you are doing.. :-)

T-Mo.. Forever.

It doesn't matter how cheap TMobile is or how quickly they receive updates. Their service still is terrible in most areas.

+1 to this. Would love to jump ship. But I was sitting with a bunch of friends the other night. 2 on t-mobile couldn't even make a call. One on AT&T had Edge. I'm on Verizon with full LTE.

Locked down or least I could use my phone.

How Unfortunate for YOU.
And How LUCKY for ME that I receive FANTASTIC COVERAGE where "I" live..
Continue to Spend whatever it is you spend for your Carrier's Coverage..
I will FOREVER continue to spend my $30.00 a Month for mine.. :-)

Until T-Mobile eliminates that plan, lol. Trust me, I'm moving back to it, soon; but, even I know, that plan won't last forever. It may get better, it may get worse, or it may go away, altogether.

Why can I not find the Moto X for sale on the T-Mo website. I thought all along that they had it available, but I'm not seeing it. Am I missing something??

Is this site done talking about BBM yet??? BlackBerry is dead, move on.

I'm waiting on republic wireless at 299$ hope will have these fixes when released that or new nexus 5 on 30/month T-Mobile

Using an unlocked AT&T Moto X on T-Mobile. Sigh... Hope the update comes soon; choppy audio is getting old and I'd love some camera improvements.

I have to say that's a pretty impressive update. Most camera updates I've experienced had little impact in the end.

Once this update makes it to the Verizon version I will consider. the camera was the only thing holding it back, since we aren't going to see a nexus on Verizon anytime soon. Wonder if this also will get pushed to the maxi. I would love that battery life and improved camera.

Other than the radios wouldn't the devices be pretty much the same from carrier to carrier? What would make VZW sit on this update for a long time? If no changes to the radio are being made I'd hope they'd get this in the stream quickly.
