Droid DNA update brings support for the TalkBack feature

Verizon is pushing out a small update for the HTC Droid DNA today, but it's not the Sense 5 update that everyone is waiting for. Instead today's small update to version 2.07.605.1 710RD does one simple thing — enables support for the TalkBack feature so folks who need an audio version of what's on the screen can now have it.

Yes, that's an important consideration that should be enabled, but it's not quite what everyone using a DNA is wanting. There's still no word on when we should expect to see the Sense 5 update that Verizon has promised, but we hope it's sooner rather than later.

  • Love this phone, but I haven't been stock in ages. Hopefully they roll out the update soon for all the stock people, Sense 5 is fantastic and runs like a dream on this phone.
  • Love my DNA as well....what Sense 5 ROM are you running codiusprime?
  • Yeah, I am going to be skipping that update. Knowing Verizon, it will probably drain the battery while also overheating the phone and voila, my desk has been set on fire. Maybe if Verizon was kind enough to bundle this update with the removal of several gigs of bloatware that it stuck in this phone, I would consider it. Posted via Android Central App
  • another of their forgotten flagship phone...
  • But you can simply install TalkBack from the Play Store. Or was there a bug in the DNA's software that was preventing TalkBack from working?
  • HTC phones have been notorious for being inaccessible to TalkBack, which is one of the biggest reasons I despise Sense. That said, they have made some efforts to make things accessible as of Sense 4.x but web browsing in the Droid DNA was inaccessible until this update. But Jerry is correct. Unless you're a visually-impaired user who relies on text-to-speech to access what's on your phone's screen, you won't see a benefit with this update.
  • The Sense 5 update is now slated to be toward the end of the year.

  • so i have an EVO 4G LTE. got the new update for that phone today. "stability improvements". I notice nothing. Any chance that me and my EVO posse (yeah i said that!) will receive a legit update. perhaps to 4.2.2 or 4.3 or maybe when its out there in the wild, 4.4? I'd be happy even if android version stayed at 4.1.2 and I just got sense 5. could this be a "preparation" update to get the phone ready for a larger one? it was 133 MB. i'd like a version update. come on. HTChange.
  • Ok so do not use the talkback up date or if you do use the tutorials first cuz I didn't use the tutorial and I couldn't unlock my phone for like 20 mins to unlock it use 2 fingers be careful everyone lol I feel like such an idiot lol Posted via Android Central App
