It should really come as no surprise that the Motorola Droid is destined to received Android 2.1 (we just saw a 2.0.1 upgrade roll out a little while ago). And it should point to the imminency of the 2.1 update when we start seeing screen shots leaks, like we do here.

These pics from Androidin.net [via AndroidOS.in] show version 2.1, Build ERD72. Other than that, nothing really to glean other than the graphical goodness. A little oddly, We see the same four-color "X" design we've come to know from the Nexus One. Add that to the "Nexus" desktop option, and we're starting to think Google has bigger plans for the word than just the "Nexus One" phone.

Also of note is that it looks like Palm's card metaphor has been aped. We'll have to see how our pals at PreCentral.net feel about that.

Tons more after the break.

I just purchased the Droid a few weeks ago after switching from being with blackberry for yearse, and it's quite exciting to go from a fully mature os to one in it's infancy. So many possibilities. Even if half of these rumors don't pan out, it's still a very exciting time to be in the android ecosystem.

Yea...I just switched from a Palm Pre to a Samsung Moment. Not as exciting as the Droid, but great. I love the OS. So many options, and all this "bated breath" for Eclair (hell...I'd take Donut at this point. ha ha) is killing me...in a good way. Bring on the updates!!!

This card view I see are those just the homescreens or are they open apps?

*Edit* just answered my own question looks like they are homescreen cards. Still sweet, not a total Pre ripoff

Where's the update.zip for 2.1??? I know, it's not out yet. I can't wait...

Can't wait for this!

Nice RX-7 :)

It looks like we're going to get a news app, with weather and headlines. If you look at the app drawer shot, the bottom is for some strange reason, right on the line that would have apps starting with "n". And on the far left is an icon that could be a newspaper.

Which would explain the weather/headlines widget. That'll be nice! I hope we can add RSS feeds to that!
Can't wait for 2.1!

Without a viseo it didn't happen! If the person that leaked his can send in a screenshot, surely they can make a short vid showing the entire phone in the shots?!

Can't wait for it to come out.

Ooooooooooo, gimmie gimmie gimmie gimmie gimmie!!!!!

Oh man that looks so good. I can't wait for the news/weather app. The new gallery looks great and those fancy clocks/smoke things...whatever they are, should be neat.

If anyone wants to be able to use the Nexus One Wallpapers without having to modify your phone, go here:

All the built in Nexus One wallpapers are there.
