The Samsung Galaxy S3 (S III) is the official phone of the Olympic Games, so it stands to reason that that device would get some love as the 30th Olympiad gets underway. Samsung's a big sponsor of the games in London, and so with the festivities about to commence in the UK's capital, the manufacturer is launching an exclusive Olympic accessory in the host city.

Today sees the unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy S3 Special Edition Olympic Games Flip Cover, which allows you to protect the front of your S3 with a soft cover, while adorning the back with London landmarks like Big Ben, the London Eye and the Gherkin. The Olympic flip cover will be made available at "Samsung PIN" pop-up stores around London, including at shopping centers and near Olympic venues.

If you're not in London, or just don't care for the Olympic branding, you can also pick up the regular Galaxy S3 flip cover from

Samsung launches Olympic flip cover for Galaxy S3

Sadly, I wouldn't place any trust in these. Nor are they practical for me. My battery cover now has a crack near one of the tabs, even though I've removed it no more than 3 times, and have been extremely gentle with it. With the case on, it won't affect me, but I was still quite disappointed. The battery door on the S2 was basically indestructible. We didn't need this "hyperglaze" crap...

Overall though, I'm still very impressed with the phone. It's just upsetting how bad Samsung's quality control is. Basically, everything goes. I have those little black "ink spots" on my screen (not a big deal), and had some pretty bad persistent image issues on the S2 (pretty big deal).

I agree on the "hyperglaze" statement. the back cover on my GS3 already and some scratches and there is an area that seems to be getting worn out. Super frustrating...... software wise... the phone is a killer that is for sure.... but the built and desing..... UGHHHHH DECEPCIONANTE(spanish for Dissapointing :)

The back cover on the flip case is definitely stronger than the regular back cover. Not as much "give" in the material. I got one from a friend. Figured I'd give it a try. I keep my phone in my front pocket. So, I was skepical about the front cover. I've been using it for about 2 weeks. I love it.
