Google-Motorola

Not that we ever really expected otherwise, but the shareholders of Motorola Mobility today approved the company's merger with Google. Motorola says 99 percent of the votes were in favor of the merger, and the votes represented about 74 percent of the company's outstanding shares as of Oct. 11.

“We are pleased and gratified by the strong support we have received from our stockholders, with more than 99 percent of the voting shares voting in support of the transaction," CEO Sanjay Jha said in a released statement. "We look forward to working with Google to realize the significant value this combination will bring to our stockholders and all the new opportunities it will provide our dedicated employees, customers, and partners.”

Google has said it intends to continue to run Motorola as a separate company. The deal, worth some $12.5 billion, is expected to close late this year or in early 2012.

What a cheap way to get patents.....buy them out!!

witmah says:

Not particularly. Apple bought out intrinsity, so that they could start producing what was essentially a carbon copy of Samsung's Hummingbird Processor. if you need the patents, what else can you do if someone else already holds them? Besides, does it really look like the Motorola Shareholders are much opposed? looks like a positive on both sides to me.

Large companies always buyout others to increase stock portfolios. Apple and Microsoft are notorious for doing it too, more so than google. Google is just trying to level the playing field now.

Can you imagine motorola build quality and pure google?
Please make it happen.

Will be nice to see if they get rid of blur. The Razr could become a Nexus Light.

icebike says:

Light????

The Razr is a better device than the galaxy nexus already.
Just needs nfc and dump blur.

terrycanfly says:

And a removeable battery, a slightly higher Res screen. And even though the razr's camera is amazing and is 8mp the galaxy nexus still has a better camera. Its low light sensitivity gives it very little noise in low light conditions and the 0 shutter lag is nothing short of amazing because everyone knows megapixels means absolutely nothing in picture quality just picture size. The only thing the razr is better at is it is a hair thinner.

God I hopes so! I love my MoPho so far, but the uncertainty of whether or not that it was going to be queued for the ICS update was killing me. That was the main reason I bought it...the sales rep said that as it was the latest and greatest Android device on Sprint, it would get the ICS update. With this merger...I think that it really makes that all the more likely!

Just ordered my Lapdock 100 too. Will be rocking that in a short time too!

Please let this mean the next Nexus is a Motorola and not another Samsung.
